On June 25, the European Space Agency (ESA) and the Chinese Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) presented an award to Prof. Yifang Ban 'in appreciation and recognition of the outstanding contribution to the success and achievements of the MOST/ESA Dragon 2 Cooperation 2008-2012' at the Dragon 2 Final Symposium and Dragon 3 Kick-Off in Beijing, China.

Prof. Ban is the European Lead Principle Investigator (PI) for the project 'Satellite Monitoring of Urbanization in China for Sustainable Development' within the Dragon 2 program.  During 2008 to 2012, the project developed algorithms and methods to map China's urbanization during 1990, 2000 and 2010 using satellite images and analyzed the environmental impact of major urban regions that experienced rapid urbanization with15 journal papers and 20 conference papers. 


Yifang Ban is the Professor of Geoinformatics at the Department of Urban Planning and Environment at the School of Architecture and the Built Environment. She is the European Lead PI for the new project 'Urbanization and Climate' within the Dragon 3 program.
