POSTDOK-STIPENDIUM
AFA Försäkring utlyser nytt postdok-stipendium på 1 miljon kronor i till yngre forskare inom arbetsmiljöområdet för postdoktorala studier och forskning. Arbetsmarknadens parter har genom AFA Försäkring en ledande roll som forskningsfinansiär inom arbetsmiljöområdet. AFA Försäkring vill nu främja den svenska arbetsmiljöforskningens kompetensutveckling och öka möjligheten till forskarkarriärer. Vi vill ge yngre forskare ökade möjligheter till studier och forskning vid utländska lärosäten. Därför utlyser vi ett stipendium på 1 000 000 kronor inom arbetsmiljöområdet för postdoktorala studier och forskning. Med yngre forskare menas den som har disputerat för högst 6 år sedan. Stipendiet kan utnyttjas mellan 2012–2015 och ska omfatta minst 15 månaders utlandsvistelse. Ansökan ska vara inne senast den 21 juni 2012. ARCHITECTURE WRITING: EXPERIMENTAL APPROACHES, May, 24th and 25th, 10:00–17:00, KTH Architecture School, Stockholm, Room A1. Architecture-Writing: Experimental Approaches is a two-day workshop and symposium that aims to explore the practice of architecture-writing as a legitimate mode of engaging in design practice research. We will discuss as well as experiment with writing as a spatio-temporal and critical form of design practice, which engages individual as well as collective voices, and employs old and new technologies of dissemination. Some of the approaches we will engage will include: writing as a form of critical and creative practice or ‘ficto-criticism’; writing as a provocation to (political) action or how to write a manifesto; writing from, with, and for minoritarian voices; writing and the limits of legibility or expanding what writing can do; writing as site-writing and place-making. We invite expressions of interest to participate either fully or partially in the two-day event. Participants are welcome to attend both of our invited morning lectures, and are encouraged to participate in the workshop and symposium components. We invite the submission of brief position papers (or provocations) for our symposium component: please send us your name, affiliation, title, brief abstract. Other forms of participation are also welcome! This two day event will conclude with the launch of the recently published book, Emergent Writing Methodologies in Feminist Studies, Mona Livholts (editor). DE PRAKTISKA KUNSKAPERNAS TEORIER/THEORIES OF PRACTICAL KNOWING (7,5 hp) Kursansvariga: Maria Hellström Reimer, Mats Rosengren. Overall theme: As research and innovation gain in societal and political importance – or even appear as our one and only fate – questions concerning different forms of knowing practices and/or practical knowing, gain in importance. In the field of design often addressed through the vague terms of “design thinking”, this is a shift with far-reaching consequences for research practice in general and design research in particular. What used to be considered methodological issues are now approached also from an ontological point of view, consequently allocating to the idea of “practice” a new role. -- The course aims to provide a platform for the studying and discussing of knowing practices from a philosophical point of view. This entails a problematizing of both “research by design” and the “design of research” from three different perspectives, with a special focus on the social production of meaning and processes of emergence and change. The course welcomes doctoral students from the different fields of design research and research in the arts, with the students’ ongoing projects as an important point of departure.

Invitation to doctoral/third cycle course, Gothenburg, 4–9 June 2012: DYNAMICS OF INCLUSION AND EXCLUSION IN HERITAGE PROCESSES (PhD course, 5 hec). This doctoral/ hird cycle course is open to doctoral students within the broad field of heritage studies and will be held in conjunction with an international conference hosted by University of Gothenburg, Inaugural Conference for the Association of Critical Heritage Studies, Gothenburg, June 5-8, 2012. The main core of the course will be a session during this conference, in which doctoral students present papers. These papers, based on the students’ own research projects, will focus on the theme of the course and relate to the course literature. Thematically, the course draws attention to the fact that when something is included in the category of "heritage", other phenomena are simultaneously excluded. Focusing on the dynamics which underpin such processes of categorization and selection, the session asks how inclusion and exclusion is played out and can be theorized. The session welcomes papers from doctoral students from a variety of disciplinary backgrounds relating to fields such as cultural studies, heritage studies, museum studies, tourism studies (and many more). Papers should focus on how heritage processes come to include and/or exclude different conceptions of the past (voices, experiences, interpretations, narratives), actors (individuals, groups, communities, nations) and materialities (objects, buildings, landscapes, localities). Contributions can be theoretical and/or empirical. A point of departure for the session is that heritage can be seen as negotiated and unstable processes involving a series of interfaces between perspectives, levels, actors and materialities. At each interface, competing meanings, interests, forms of knowledge and truth claims are negotiated and relations of power and differentiated access to resources – economic, political, cultural – come into play. Course organisation: The course (5 higher education credits), will be open to maximum 20 (minimum 5) PhD students, and will be given in English. It has two main objectives: firstly, to develop and deepen a discussion within the theme outlined above, and secondly, to provide an opportunity for participants to practice the procedures of research conferences, and to reflect upon the learning opportunities and outcomes, specific to the scientific conference format. Hösten 2012 ger Humanistiska-samhällsvetenskapliga forskarskolan i äldre, åldrande och omsorg följande kurs: ÄLDRES BOENDE – RUM FÖR ÅLDRANDE (7,5 hp). Kursens mål är att deltagarna förvärvar fördjupade kunskaper inom boendets fysiska och sociala dimensioner under åldrandet. I kursen behandlas och analyseras internationell (inklusive nordisk) forskning om äldres boende i vilken äldres bostadsval och den fysiska miljön (i form av hus, bostäder, utemiljöer och tekniksystem) är huvudfrågor. Kursen är upplagd så att den skall stärka förmågan att undersöka äldres (55+) och gamlas (85+) boende och boendemiljöer på ett sådant sätt att både rumsliga/fysiska och sociala förhållanden inkluderas. This international conference is a springboard for sharing ideas and concepts about contemporary design education research. Contributors are invited to submit research that deals with different facets of contemporary approaches to design education research. All papers will be double-blind peer-reviewed. This conference is open to research in any aspect and discipline of design education. Conference theme: DESIGN LEARNING FOR TOMORROW – DESIGN EDUCATION FROM KINDERGARTEN TO PhD. Designed artefacts and solutions influence our lives and values, both from a personal and societal perspective. Designers, decision makers, investors and consumers hold different positions in the design process, but they all make choices that will influence our future visual and material culture. To promote sustainability and meet global challenges for the future, professional designers are dependent on critical consumers and a design literate general public. For this purpose design education is important for all. We propose that design education in general education represents both a foundation for professional design education and a vital requirement for developing the general public competence for informed decision making. Stipendier ur HELGO ZETTERVALLS FOND delas ut för projekt inom arkitekturområdet till studenter, doktorander, forskare som har fullgjort sina teoretiska delar av studierna. Sista ansökningsdag för att söka stipendier är den 28 maj 2012. STIPENDIER FÖR BYGGNADSKONSTENS UTVECKLING: Statens fastighetsverk disponerar del av avkastningen från Helgo Zettervalls fond “till främjande av den svenska byggnadskonstens utveckling”. Därför delar Statens fastighetsverk ut stipendier ur Helgo Zettervalls fond för utbildnings-, utvecklings- och forskningsprojekt inom arkitekturens område. Vem kan få Helgostipendium? Studerande vid tekniska högskolor, doktorander, forskare, praktiskt verksamma, organisationer med flera kan söka stipendium. Ansökningar där resultatet är tänkt att spridas och bidra till kunskapsuppbyggnaden om den svenska byggnadskonstens utveckling prioriteras. Medel utgår inte för löne-, mat eller traktamentskostnader. Stiftelsen Helgo Zettervalls fond tillkom 1955, då Helgo Zettervalls son Folke och dennes maka Elin testamenterade sin kvarlåtenskap till Byggnadsstyrelsen för att bilda en fond till minne av Helgo Zettervall. 1993 övertog Statens fastighetsverk ansvaret för fonden.
