Drying & Process Technology

The Drying & Process Technology research group at KTH was founded in 1986 by Dr Joaquin Martínez within the international cooperation programme with Nicaragua supported by SAREC. At present, the group consists of Dr Martínez himself and two Ph.D. students.

In the Drying & Process Technology group, there are three areas of research:

Drying Technology

Work in this area is mainly focused on heat and mass transfer in single or multicomponent systems, drying of foodstuffs, evaporation and modelling and simulation of drying processes.

Removal of Heavy Metals by Biosorption

The purpose of our work in this area is to develop a treatment system for natural and wastewaters to remove heavy metals using chitosan as adsorbent.

Processing of Natural Products

Here, we develop processes for the manufacture of natural products, for instance, the recovery of a non-edible oil from Neem seeds for biodiesel production.

All our projects are carried out in close cooperation with academic institutions in Latin America.
