KTH School of Electrical Engineering,Electrical Machines and Power Electronics Head of DivisionChandur Sadarangani was born in Dec. 1946 in Hyderbad Sind in present day Pakistan. He grew up in Central Africa in countries which are today called Mozambique, Zambia, Malawi and Zimbabwe, where he also completed his primary and secondary education. He received his BSc. Degree in Electrical Engineering at UMIST, Manchester in 1969,and his PhD degree at the University of Chalmers in Gothenburg, Sweden in 1979. From 1979-1984 he worked for ASEA Motors (today ABB) in Västerås as a design engineer. In 1984 he joined ABB Corporate Research as a research engineer and was appointed Senior Scientist in 1991. In 1992 he was awarded a chair at Kungliga Tekniska Högskolan (KTH) in Electrical Machines and Drives. He has since then been Head of the Division of Electrical Machines and Power Electronics which is one of the four divisions belonging to the department of Electrical Power Engineering (ETS). He has upto now examined over 25 PhD students and 40 master students. He is also author and co-author to over 50 papers and 1 book and inventor and co-inventor of over 20 patents. Besides supporting the research work conducted in his division, Chandur Sadarangani is active in Cigré (WG11-6) and the Swedish Standardising Comittee for rotating machines (tk2). His area of research is permanent magnet drives, electrical hybrid and traction systems, losses and vibration (noise) in electrical machines, high speed electrical drives, new invertor topologies, digital control of drives and unconventional motor concepts. | |
