Juliette Soulard, Associate Professor

KTH School of Electrical Engineering,
Electrical Machines and Power Electronics

Juliette Soulard studied Electrical Engineering at the Ecole Normale Superieure de Cachan in France (92-95). She is both a
teacher (agregee, 1994) and a doctor in Electrical Engineering (1998) from University of Paris VI.

In November 1998, she moved to Sweden and became a member of the Division of Electrical Machines and Power Electronics, KTH, as a post-doc. She joined the LSPM project, investigating the synchronisation process.

From June 1999 to December 2005, she was the research program leader for the Permanent Magnet Drives group within the Centre of Excellence of Power Engineering, EKC. Since January 2006, she has been leading the High Performance Electrical Machines and Drives research program within EKC2.

In December 2007, she became Associate Professor in Electrical Machines and Drives at KTH. From January 2009, she is also a senior lecturer at KTH.

Her competence is within modelling and design of electrical machines especially permanent magnet synchronous motors and generators. Her expertise includes:

  • three-phase line-start permanent magnet synchronous motors
  • field-weakening of permanent magnet motors
  • concentrated windings applied to direct-driven drive systems
  • soft magnetic composites in electrical machines
  • transverse-flux machines
  • losses and thermal modelling of electrical machines
  • finite-element simulations of electrical machines
  • analytical design tool for PM machines (Emetor)
On variable part-time parental leave from June 2009 to end of 2010.
