Mathias Ekstedt, Research Associate

KTH School of Electrical Engineering,
Industrial Information and Control Systems

Research Interests

My research area is information systems management and primarily the topic of enterprise architecture. In particular my interest revolves around how enterprise architecture models can be used for the analysis of information system properties such as security, interoperability, functional fit and more. These analyses include both to identify how such properties can be achieved with technical solutions and a proper information systems maintenance organization as well as what business impact the properties are expected to have on the business operation. Empirically, I have a partiality to the management of technically oriented information systems, such as control systems operating critical infrastructure and other process-close systems, especially within the power industry.
More information about the department's enterprise architecture research program is found here.

Positions

In addition to being a researcher at the department of Industrial Information and Control Systems at the Royal Institute of Technology, I am the program manager for the IT Applications in Power System Operation & Control program at the Center of Excellence in Electric Power Engineering (EKC²). EKC² is a research center funded by the Swedish Energy Agency and 17 industrial partners. The IT program organizes eight researchers, both senior researchers and PhD students, in a handful of projects. In the steering group for the program, eight representatives from the Swedish power industry are serving.

Degrees

Ph.D. in Industrial Information and Control Systems, Royal Institute of Technology, 2004.
M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering, Royal Institute of Technology, 1999.

Publications

Many of my publications are available here.

Other Engagements

I served on the board in the Swedish chapter of the International Council on Systems Engineering (INCOSE) during 2002-2006.
I am the founder and chairman of the Enterprise Architecture network at the Swedish Computer Society (Dataföreningen). The network started in 2005 and has currently approximately 250 members.
