About Electrical Energy Conversion

Electrical Energy Conversion (E2C) is one out of the twelve labs in the School of Electrical Engineering at KTH.

People at E2C

E2C is headed by Hans-Peter Nee, professor in power electronics. On his side are Chandur Sadarangani, professor in electrical machines, and Stefan Östlund, professor in electric traction.

Including adjunct and associate professors, researchers, post-docs, PhD students and administrators, the staff at E2C comprises approximately 30 people.

Education

E2C gives courses in the areas of electrical machines, power electronics, and electric traction. These are historically important fields in Sweden with good prospects for an interesting and challenging career.

Laboratory facilities

In our field, it is very important to be able to experimentally verify simulation results. Therefore, we have large and well equipped laboratory facilities, which are not only used for research activities, but also for the education of our students. Laboratory classes are always a highly appreciated activity at E2C.

The laboratory for electrical motors and power electronics is equipped as follows:

  • 7 student benches equipped with DSP-controlled motors.
  • 10 research places for PhD students and senior researchers.
  • Real-time simulator, climate chamber, test cell for high-speed motor measurements, motor test rigs, mechanical workshop.
  • DC power supplies up to 700V or 375A or 75kW.
  • AC power supplies up to 760V or 470 A or 360kVA or 500Hz.
  • Torque balances up to 800Nm or 3750rpm.
