Education at Electrical Energy Conversion

E2C offers both MSc and PhD courses in the field of electrical machines, power electronics and electric traction.

Students during a laboratory class

Today, the area of electrical machines and power electronics is undergoing a rapid development. New motor and generator concepts are designed for different purposes such as high speed and low losses. This development is partly initiated by the use of new permanent magnet materials and improved methods for simulation of dynamic systems and calculation of electric fields.

Power Electronics is today used in many different applications e.g. electric drives for trains, electric cars, and industrial applications like paper mills and steel mills. Additionally, power electronics is found in switch-mode power supplies (SMPS), high-voltage DC transmission (HVDC) and static var compensation (SVC). Power semiconductors like IGBT:s and power diodes are rapidly developed towards higher current and voltage ratings and increased switching frequencies.

Due to this developement the need for Engineers and PhD's with good knowledge in this area has increased.
