The overall aim of the programme is to ensure individual progression and individual deepening of knowledge, competence and judgement within architecture and related knowledge areas.
The programme fulfils the objectives of the local qualifications ordinance of the Royal Institute of Technology; it conforms to the European Architect Directive (2005/36/EG, article 46) and to the objectives of the Swedish Higher Education Ordinance (1993:100).

The school, founded in 1877 and at its current location since 1970, has a well-equipped workshop, a digital fabrication lab and an architecture library with a large collection of books and journals. In total there are around 600 students in the professional programs, 80 teachers and researchers, and 25 other staff.
The School of Architecture and Built Environment focuses on future of our societies, on how our cities, buildings and infrastructure should be designed. We study growth, technology and environment, as well as ethical considerations and risks. Our curriculum and our research are based on several academic disciplines: engineering and the technical sciences, the humanities, and the social sciences.
