About KTH Byggvetenskap
KTH Byggvetenskap is the Swedish name of our department of Civil and Architectural Engineering at the Royal Institute of Technology.
The department of Civil and Architectural Engineering was formed in 2001 by gathering the technical discipline at KTH involved in education and research in the development of the society and construction management. Both the housing- and plant construction are highly represented. As for the housing construction area the level of competence are well established on both depth as well as width and the education and research competence are adapted to the sectors need. Building acoustics, material- and building services areas as well as structural design represents key component of the profile. The department also have a for Sweden unique qualification within the civil engineering works area with a professorial chair in Highway engineering, professorial chair in Rock- and Soil mechanics and a professorial chair in Structural design and bridges. Research and postgraduate education are well integrated. The department currently has 14 professors of which 2 are visiting professors. The technical branches of learning, subject areas, are organized into 8 divisions. These are Building Materials, Building Services Engineering (including Safety ventilation), Building Technology (including building acoustics), Concrete Structures, Environmental and Natural Resources Information System, Highway and Railway Engineering, Soil- and Rock Mechanics, Steel Structures, Structural Design and Bridges (including Steel structures)
