Research

Research about the transport system is interdisciplinary and covers all modes of transportation, both for personal travel and for goods transport.

The research at the Department of Transport Science covers such areas as travel behaviour, use of economic instruments, forecasting, values and policy issues. Another important area aims to develop new materials, technologies and processes to build and maintain infrastructure such as roads and railways. We also research how to use information technology to monitor, control and facilitate the use of the transport system.

Our researchers work closely with nationally and internationally leading research groups, the Swedish Transport Administration, regional and local transport planning agencies, the Swedish National Road and Transport Research Institute (VTI), and leading industry in the transport field .

The Department of Transport Science is one of the core members of KTH´s Strategic Research Platform for Transport. We participate in the Centre for Transport Studies (CTS), Centre for Transport Research (CTR) and the centre Road2Science. The Department also has a leading role in the strategic transport research effort TRENoP, in cooperation with Linköping University (LiU) and VTI.
