Faculty Exhibition Series: In Praise of Shadows, "Presence"

To name an architects office “In Praise of Shadows” or IPOS already suggests not a norm. The name refers directly to the essay of Jun’ichirō Tanizaki In Praise of Shadows (1933). The text focuses on the aesthetics of traditional Japanese architecture and discuses it in reference to western culture and the modernistic movement.

  • Faculty member Pelle Backman wins Europan 11

  • The fire at the School of Architecture

    The fire at the School of Architecture is over. There is extensive damage but mainly limited to the lower part of the building. The taller part has suffered damage due to smoke and to some extent from water, but is expected to be usable again after sanitization.

  • Swedish Schools of Architecture (SSA)

    Since spring 2009 the four Swedish Schools of Architecture (SSA) at LTH, Chalmers, KTH and Umeå University have collaborated through a cooperative platform to promote research and education. The initiative is directed towards undergraduate and masters education programmes, professional development through education and professional registration, and development or architectural research at national level.

Strong Research Environments and National Research School in Architecture

In February 2011 the inititiative produced three coordinated applications for research funding linking the four schools: applications for strong research environments in architectural theory and method: "Architecture in the Making" and "Architecture in effect", and a national research school. The programs are scheduled to start in the autumn 2011.
