Welcome to the Department of Chemistry
The Chemistry Department is research intensive, and the research is composed of a mix of curiosity driven projects and projects devoted to solving important industrial and societal problems. Many research projects have a clear interdisciplinary character, and these are often found within the three focus areas Bioactive Molecules, Functional Materials & Surfaces, and Energy & Environment.
The Chemistry Department is one of the largest departments at the Royal Institute of Technology. The annual turnover of the department was 112 MSEK in 2007, of which 97 MSEK were related to research activities. In 2007 the department included 57 staff members with an academic degree, and in addition 24 post-docs were conducting research at the Chemistry Department. The number of research students enrolled at the Chemistry Department was 109 in 2007, and in the same year 19 students successfully defended their PhD-theses. The number of scientific publications from the Chemistry Department in 2007 was close to 230.
