Welcome to Polymeric Materials
‘Understanding properties of polymeric materials from atomistic, nanoscopic and microscopic structure and how structure at different length scales are interrelated’ / Ulf Gedde
Our Research:
Studies include semicrystalline and glassy polymers, rubber materials, polymers based on renewable resources, polymer nanocomposites and polysaccharides. Scientific and engineering problems are approached by combined experimental and theoretical (e.g. MD simulation) methods.
Fundamental research areas:
- Polymer crystallisation in confined space
- Structure building (spherulites) and mesoscale modelling
- Real-life degradation models applicable to both synthetic and native polymers in predicting lifetime and emission of low molar mass compounds
- Establishment of structure and property relationships of polysaccharides
Applied research areas:
- Long-term performance of polymeric materials
- Transport properties of polymers
- Barrier polymers based on renewable resources
- Flame-retardant polymers
- Bio-film formation on polymers
- Sustainable bio-(nano)-composites
- Polymer nanocomposites
- Polymeric materials in electro-technical applications
