Research

I mainly utilize the laser technique “Vibrational Sum Frequency Spectroscopy (VSFS)” to investigate interfaces of biological importance. VSFS has the invaluable property of being truly surface sensitive, since disordered molecules in bulk media are “invisible” for this technique. The research is a part of Biomime, the Swedish Center for Biomimetic Fibre Engineering. Important projects where we use VSFS to examine surfaces are listed below:

  • The properties of polymer surfaces exposed to various environments
  • Fatty acids adsorbed onto solid substrates
  • Phospholipids
  • The water structure at solid/liquid and liquid/vapor interfaces
  • Lubrication phenomena
