Difference between CSC and KTH accounts
Several different computer accounts are used at KTH. This page describes the difference between the so-called “KTH account” and a login-account at KTH CSC.
CSC is the School of Computer Science and Communication at KTH Royal Institute of Technology. It is a merger between the departments Nada, TMH and Language.
Nada is the Department of Numerical Analysis and Computer Science at KTH and SU (Stockholm University). CSC/Nada's computer systems are mainly used by students at the degree programmes for D, F, Media, and by students at SU. We also have accounts for our staff and external partners.
CSC's computer systems are administered separately from the central KTH system (henceforth referred to as the “KTH.SE account”). The KTH.SE account is used for
- Access to “My Pages” at www.kth.se
- The central KTH email («username»@kth.se)
- Logging on to the wireless network (EDUROAM/KTHOpen)
- Web authentication for a few separate systems, e.g. Bilda
A login account at CSC on the other hand, is something you are only entitled to while you are affiliated with CSC, usually as an active student or staff member. There are those who only have a login account at CSC, but most also have a KTH.SE account. The CSC account usually (but not always) has the same username as the KTH.SE account.
Your CSC account is de-activated when we no longer have any indication that you require it. Accounts are renewed semianually for students attending CSC courses, staff, and others affiliated with CSC; usually this is done at the start of each semester. For students, this happens after you have registered at the student office (“studievägledning”). Students registered at KTH who are not registered at CSC courses may retain their CSC account, but the account is not renewed automatically.
When a CSC account is de-activated, an email is sent to the account's email address. For students, this is often forwarded to the KTH.SE account.
If you are not in any of the above categories, but still have reasons to use your CSC account, you must ask your CSC contact, e.g. your course leader, to verify that this is the case. However, if you only need the account to complete remaining parts of courses (examination of laboratory exercises, or similar), your account can be manually renewed for a couple of months. Contact us (Systemgruppen, the CSC Systems Group) by replying to the email.
You will recieve several reminders regarding the de-activation of the account. We apologize for the inconvenience, but we do want you to be fully aware of this. After the CSC account is de-activated, no email address in CSC's domains will work. These include
«username»@csc.kth.se
«username»@nada.kth.se
«username»@d.kth.se
«username»@f.kth.se
«username»@media.kth.se
and some older domains. But the KTH.SE address, «username»@kth.se, is not affected.
Those who use CSC's email normally access it by webmail at
webmail.csc.kth.se/ (CSC:s webmail, Squirrelmail)
or by configuring their email application to use the server mail1.nada.kth.se as described at
Those who use KTH.SE email normally access it by webmail at
webmail.kth.se/ (KTH.SE's webmail, Outlook Web Access)
or in their email application as described at
