KTH Royal Institute of Technology researchers are helping to ensure that the power grids of the future meet the new demands created by renewable energy.

  • Hon banar väg för elbilar

    Published Apr 23, 2013

  • Induction machine generating reactive energy

    Published Sep 18, 2012

What if it was possible to generate reactive power from the rotor of the induction machine in remote areas where there was no grid available? Naveed‐ur‐Rehman Malik and his colleagues have developed the first induction machine that theoretically holds to the test.

  • New method opens for more renewable energy

    Published Sep 03, 2012

A new advanced control method for power converters in electric transmission systems will permit for substantial power loss reductions. Used for HVDC solutions, this new technology will among other things open up for increased penetration of renewable energy sources in the energy system.

  • Electrified roads - TEDxKTH

    Published May 28, 2012

The world is today facing a grand challenge when it comes to transforming the present energy system, that to large extent is based on fossil energy sources, to a future system that relies on renewable energy sources. This is particularly true for our transports. Regardless how the solution will look like, one thing is certain, electricity will play a major role.

  • New material paves the way to more effective energy

    Published May 22, 2012

In the future, we can expect to become more dependent on different sources of energy. This will demand smarter electric grids that can handle variations in power generation. At the kth School of Electrical Engineering (kth ee), researchers have developed a new type of power converter that makes the equation possible.

  • The converter that reduces energy losses by a factor of ten

    Published Dec 14, 2011

Researchers at Electrical Energy Conversion have developed an energy converter with an efficiency close to 100 percent. The converter will, among other things, make our electric cars, hybrid cars, electric trains and cross-border electricity grids more energy and cost efficient.

  • From research to finished product

    Published Jun 20, 2011

With solid expertise and experience, KTH was the obvious partner when Bombardier decided to develop a new drive system for trains, a technology that is already contributing to faster, more efficient and more energy-saving trains.

  • Environment-smart car a winning concept

    Published May 25, 2011

The car of the future is not just climate-smart. It will be a cog in our entire energy-consuming society. It will be powered by hydrogen and electricity, and instead of just standing idle in the garage when not in use, it will be able to function as an energy source.

  • Brighter times for solar electricity

    Published Oct 12, 2010

Solar energy is a business area on the move. Major investments are underway in Europe and China. Sweden has the opportunity to contribute the technical expertise necessary to supply Europe with cheap electricity - from the Sahara! Last week the KTH solar cell facility was inaugurated with that goal in its sights.

    Published Jun 30, 2009
