The research and education conducted by the Sound and Image Processing (SIP) Lab focuses on the processing of audio and video signals. The research work of the Lab ranges from basic research (e.g., information-theoretical problems relevant to audio and video signals, modeling of the human auditory system) to applications (e.g., video coding, signal enhancement). Our work is often performed in collaboration with industry and in the context of pan-European projects. Current projects include speech enhancement for people with hearing impairment, generic source coding, audio coding, video coding, speech modification, auditory modeling, and objective quality assessment.

The SIP Laboratory offers undergraduate courses that provide introductions to information theory, pattern recognition and the processing and perception of audio and video signals. We also offer Ph.D. level courses in these subjects. We offer a variety of master's thesis projects.
