Laboratory test-beds

MUMS

MUMS, Multi User MIMO Test System, is a vehicle for testing. This platform is used to experiment with new communications technologies.

Project manager: Per Zetterberg

Unique with four nodes

The test-bed is unique for its four nodes – on four different carts. All nodes have each two antennas, which can both transmit and receive information, and the whole system can also be synchronized.

Cellular phones as base stations

As the test-bed can be used for different types of projects the purpose and results thus varies. In one of the projects – Cooperative Relaying – the nodes cooperate by transmitting and receiving, as well as forwarding information. This can be illustrated by an hypothetical example: cellular phones would cooperate and transmit each others’ information, meaning that our cellular phones would function as base stations. So if someone is located in a basement and is too far away from the base station and doesn’t have coverage, someone’s cellular phone, mid way, could forward the information to the person's cell phone in the basement.
