Sustainable supply chains for bioenergy systems

Bioenergy is assuming an increased prominence among EU’s member states but its supply chain management success differs from country to country, especially local-scale chains. This research project seeks to improve the strategic use of these supply chains, in particular the use of the concept of sustainable supply chain management in order to better understand how bioenergy supply chains are organized and what can be done to reinforce a sustainable bioenergy system.

Short biography

Alessandro holds a PhD in Environmental Engineering from the School of Civil Engineering, Architecture and Urban Design at UNICAMP State University of Campinas, Brazil, a M.Sc in Environmental Management and Policy from the International Institute for Industrial Environmental Economics (IIIEE) at Lund University (2004) and bachelor degree in Sanitation Technology from the Technology Faculty at Unicamp, Brazil (1995). During his master studies, he has been awarded a scholarship from the Stiftelsen för Internationalisering av Högre Utbilding Forskning (STINT), Sweden.

He has 10 years professional experience working with the private and public sectors in topics related to cleaner production and industrial ecology. This includes developing lectures in environmental engineering programmes, planning and development of projects, and evaluating environmental impacts. He joined the Energy and Climate Studies program in September 2010 as a researcher in the field of energy systems planning. His current research is focused on the supply chain planning for sustainable bioenergy systems.
