System and Component Design (SKD)
About the area Systems and component design
We work with the future of energy efficient transmissions, with smart solutions to reduce consumption of materials and energy, and with products that can reduce the amount of airborne particles in our big cities. We examine how soil degradation can be avoided in forestry works, and why the trains have difficulty stopping in autumn when the leaves fall.
Research and teaching are focused on how components and their interfaces are built into systems, products and services. We have a special focus on:
- Modular product architectures (components and interfaces).
- Modeling, simulation, and testing of physical behavior.
- Prediction of friction and wear.
- Product- and service design
- Ecodesign
- Sustainable machine components
Research
The research within System and component design is conducted in four strategic areas:
Education
We offer several courses in product development, components, system engineering and design. Systems and Component Design are responsible for two Masters level tracks – Engineering Design and Machine Design.
