New INDEK report on ICT released by VINNOVA

Published Oct 13, 2015

In the spring of 2014 the Swedish innovation agency, VINNOVA, initiated a research project to provide understanding of the mechanisms that has taken Sweden and Finland to positions as leaders in ICT and digitalization. The research was assigned to a research group at the department of Industrial economics and management at KTH, headed by Professor Eric Giertz and Professor Annika Rickne, together with a team at Etlatieto Oy , headed by Petri Rouvinen, CEO.

The report Small and beautiful – The ICT success of Finland and Sweden is now published. Several persons at Indek have been part of the Indek research team; Niklas Arvidsson. Anders Broström, Magnus Gens, Fredrik Johansson, Sven Lindmark, Monia Lougui and Kent Thorén. The report is one of the most comprehensive comparisons between the ICT sectors in Sweden and Finland. The sectors have many similarities but also, as the report highlights, important differences. The systematic, evolutionary and institutional approach taken in this thorough analysis of the development of ICT sectors in Finland and Sweden provides an ambitious and promising model for policy learning studies. The study contributes substantially to policy learning on how to think around innovation and development processes, as well as around policy mechanisms. Such policy learning is of fundamental importance to policy making.
