Minor Field Studies
Through Sida, KTH students have the opportunity to gain a two-month scholarship in order to undertake field studies in developing countries. This is the Minor Field Studies Programme. Sida's aim is to improve knowledge on developing countries and their problems at Swedish universities.
MFS in brief
MFS covers field studies in students' subjects in a developing country. These studies often take the form of projects at one or two-year Master's level and are often used for degree projects.
Each study must produce a report in English earning 15-30 credits. An MFS scholarship amounts to SEK 25 000 and students must be prepared to cover any costs in excess of this sum.
Project concept
The MFS Administrator does not supply any project concepts or ready-made tasks. These must be formulated and developed by the students themselves with suitable teachers and supervisors in Sweden and in the host country. However various organisations may also offer project proposals.
If you wish to apply, first read the KTH MFS and Supervisor Instructions carefully. See the links to the left.
Where can I go?
Possible host countries for MFS projects are based on the OECD DAC list:
Allocation of scholarships
After application and selection procedures, KTH allocates around 30-40 MFS scholarships every year.
PLEASE NOTE! From 2009, KTH has no external MFS scholarships to allocate. Applications from KTH students only will be considered.
Application
This years deadlines are 15 February, 15 April and 15 November.
