Flemingsberg - with a focus on medical technology
Flemingsberg is a modern area with academic “density” and is one of Northern Europe’s most important areas in medical technology - both with regard to research and industrial activity.
It is in Flemingsberg where the future is formed in the care sector and medical technology. Bachelor’s degrees, university engineering courses and Master’s programmes specialising in medicine are carried on at KTH Flemingsberg. In addition to education, there is also a research centre, the Centre for Technology in Medicine and Health (CTMH), where we cooperate with Karolinska Institutet and Stockholm County Council; the object being to contribute to the development and growth of research within technology, medicine and health care.
Within the area there are also other seats of learning such as Södertörn’s University College and Karolinska Institutet with more than 10,000 students, as well as Novum Research Centre, where 1,000 people carry out research. Flemingsberg is an area that is growing fast. In order to meet accommodation needs, there is a lot of building going on and even more apartments are planned, including hundreds of new student apartments.
Flemingsberg lies in Huddinge Municipality which is bordered in the north and the west by Stockholm and in the south by Botkyrka Municipality. Although it only takes about 15 minutes by commuter train to central Stockholm, there is still very much left of the old rural district. More than half of the municipality is made up of forest, mountains, lakes and agricultural land. Huddinge also has seven nature reserves; Björksättrahalvön, Gladöskogen, Gömmaren, Gömsta äng, Orlången, Lännaskogen and Paradiset.
Huddinge shopping centre is also quite close, or why not visit the large retail park at Kungens Kurva which has an IKEA store, Heron City and other major shops.
