Questions and answers about the campus relocation

Here you will find common questions and answers about how the campus relocation will affect you as a student.

Why are we moving from the Kista/Södertälje campus?

KTH has grown considerably over the past 20 years. The original incentives for having the various campuses were established have changed over time due to both external factors and KTH's internal development.

I am currently studying in Kista/Södertälje. What happens to my studies in the future?

Before the move is completed, you will not have to commute between two campuses on the same day. All scheduled teaching will be organised as full days in the same place.

I study in Södertälje and plan to graduate in spring 2025. Will I be affected by the move?

No.

I study in Kista and plan to graduate in spring 2026. Will I be affected by the move?

Yes, probably. Considerable coordination and planning work is underway regarding when different programmes and years will move to the KTH Campus. Once this is done, a schematic view of the moves will be presented. The main plan is for the lower years to move first, which may mean that those nearing graduation (and are in phase with their studies) have time to finish studying and take their degree before the move.

Will KTH have any kind of study activities in Kista/Södertälje after 2027?

No, because KTH will not retain teaching premises or office space for staff in Södertälje and Kista. However, KTH will contribute to targeted education and research initiatives in both Södertälje and Kista, which will be developed with external partners.

Will my thesis be affected by the move?

That depends on whether your thesis includes laboratory elements and where your supervisor/examiner has their permanent office location.

Will there be enough study places at KTH Campus?

Yes, that is the intention. KTH has a responsibility to you as a student to ensure that you can complete your education with high quality. This also includes equal access to self-study areas, the library, refectories and more. Work is currently underway at KTH, where the possibility of expanding the number of self-study places on the KTH Campus is being investigated.

Will there be enough lab environments and applied teaching at KTH Campus as in Kista/Södertälje?

Yes, as with other premises on KTH Campus and in Flemingsberg, the lab environments will be utilised more efficiently. Some lab environments on KTH Campus will be updated to match the needs of the programmes being moved from Kista and Södertälje.

Will there be separate section rooms for students moving from Kista/Södertälje?

Not necessarily. The purpose of the move is for teachers and students to come closer together on a cohesive campus so that you, as a student, have easier access to a wider range of courses. However, a discussion about access to section rooms is being held between THS and KTH.

How will students coming from the other campuses be integrated at KTH Campus?

Concrete planning is underway on how the premises on the KTH Campus will be used better and how students from Södertälje and Kista can be accommodated. The goal is for all students to receive an equivalent education. This work takes place in collaboration with THS.

How will the move affect me as a current student on the KTH campus?

The primary focus has been on the project plans for the various relocations. Once the project plans have been established, the remaining parts of the education and university operational support will be connected.

I want to apply to KTH from spring 2024. Which campus will I be on?

This may vary. The programme's place of study is always stated on each programme's information page at kth.se/studies .
