The 2011 cohort
The students of the 2011 EMDC program are now well in the process of going to UPC or IST in September. We had twice as many applicants this year and after the first eligibility screening we had 325 applications to evaluate (out of a total of 600+ applications). The 23 students that constitute the 2011 cohort are thus the best of the best. The 2010 cohort has proved to be among the top 10% of students at IST and UPC and we have high hopes that this will continue.
Among the 2011 students we find more students from Europe this year. We have our two first students from Spain and Portugal, two students from Greece (both from National Technical University of Athens) and two from Lithuania (both from Vilnius University). We also have students from Cyprus, Slovakia, Serbia, Ukraine, Russia and two students from Turkey.
Among the non-Europeans we find two students from Pakistan, both from the National University of Science and Technology. As a coincidence our current students from Pakistan are also from NUST, something that we realized only after having completed the evaluation process. We are very happy with our current students, expect this years students to perform equally good and hope to also next year see students from NUST to apply.
Our three students from China come from Zhejiang University, Tongji University and Northwestern Polytechnical University, all top ranked universities in China. Two South American student, again one from Brazil and this year also one from Colombia, is a positive sign of our exposure across the Atlantic. We also have one student from Indonesia, as our current student from Nanyang Technological University in Singapore, and one student from India, from Birla Institute of Technology.
The students of 2010 have arrived at UPC and IST
In September the first cohort of students arrived in Barcelona and Lisbon. We have 11 nationalities represented: Albania, Argentina, Brazil, China, Greece, India, Indonesia, Iran, Pakistan, Sweden and the UK. This year we are planning to admit up to 24 students.
