Master's programme in Chemical Engineering for Energy and the Environment
The master programme Chemical Engineering for Energy and the Environment will give you efficient engineering tools to help in solving future challenges on how to best use our energy- and natural resources.
Career prospects
The job market for engineers graduated from this program is broad and international. The program provides an excellent basis for opportunities in industry as well as for further academic studies on a PhD level.
Chemical engineers with a profile towards energy and environment are very attractive for many different branches such as suppliers of energy and chemicals, the pulp and paper industry, the vehicle industry and in companies specialized in environmental issues as recycling of materials.
Our engineers can be found in the traditional Swedish industry, in small start-up companies, consultant companies, governmental institutions, research institutes and universities etc. The need for engineers with the competence offered by the program is expected to be large in the future.
Programme outline
A large number of possible elective courses allows you to tailor your own professional identity towards for example environmental aspects on the process industry, or energy for transportation. Complementary skills as problem solving or team work are trained in many of the courses, and so is also written and oral communication. The courses are therefore, to a high degree, based on seminars and project assignments as a complement to traditional lectures.
The education is closely linked to the research conducted at the School of Chemical Science and Engineering at KTH, in particular at the Department of Chemical Engineering and Technology, and to the Swedish industry.
You gain advanced competence in chemical engineering and obtain modern tools to analyze various processes, such as the production of biofuels, energy storage or the purification of drinking water, during whole chain from raw materials to product. The analyses often include aspects on chemicals, heat, electricity and environment.
Our education provides an excellent basis for activities also in countries outside of Sweden – most of the teachers have close contacts with foreign universities and companies and there are good possibilities to study parts of the education abroad. The degree project is often conducted in industry.
Degree project
The Degree project is worth 30 ECTS. The thesis topic may be chosen from a list of available thesis projects at the School of Chemical Science and Engineering.
