Career prospects

The programme may lead to an advanced industrial position or serve as a platform for continued graduate studies. Mathematics is becoming increasingly important in society. One important purpose of this programme is to educate tomorrow’s industrial mathematicians.

Programme outline

The courses in the programme are organized in three blocks; the basic block, the profile block and the broadening block.

The basic block gives a broad competence in mathematics on an advanced level. Within this block it is mandatory to take one course in each of these areas: algebra and geometry, analysis, topology and finally discrete mathematics.

In the profile block, courses are chosen freely to specialize and prepare for the master thesis, and the subject is regarded in a wide sense including mathematical statistics, optimization theory and theoretical computer science.

The broadening block contains courses on theory and methodology of science, communication of mathematical subjects, and half a semester of freely elective courses.

Degree project

The degree project will typically be carried out within the specialization chosen, either internally with a research group at KTH or externally at a company. The results are presented in a master's thesis as well as in a seminar.
