Excellence in research
To ensure that KTH’s research remains competitive internationally and that future research strategies are developed in a global perspective, KTH set itself the challenge of conducting an international review of its entire research base in 2008. In June 2008, some 80 international experts, from both universities and industry, visited KTH, evaluating almost 50 research areas.
The Research Assessment Evaluation, (RAE) shows that KTH has considerable research depth. KTH has a strong footprint as a technical research university and is able to take research findings forward into society. According to the international experts, over half KTH’s research units excel in both basic and applied research.
The report recommends that the future strategy of KTH focus on the consolidation of research efforts in key areas of strengths:
Materials sciences
Energy and environmental technology
Information and communication technologies
Medical technology
KTH ICT – one of the most successful KTH schools
The research at KTH ICT was evaluated by three different Expert Panels:
Electronics and Photonics
Applied Physics and Medical Technology
Information and Communications Systems
The overall evaluation was very positive. And five of the six evaluated research groups/areas at KTH ICT received high marks – making KTH ICT one of the most successful schools within KTH.
