The Sigvard Eklund Prize 2011 to Nuclear Power Safety
Publicerad 2011-10-142011 year’s Sigvard Ekunds prize ceremony was held at the annual SKC convention in Västerås. In the Elite Stadshotellet Västerås, Professor Jan Blomgren, Director of SKC, presented the diplomas and prize money to the three winners, Chi Thanh Tran, KTH, for the best Ph.D. dissertation with 50 000 SEK, Martin Lundgren, Chalmers for the best Master thesis with 25 000 SEK and Katja Göller, Uppsala University, for the best Bachelor thesis with 25 000 SEK.

The quantum electronics and quantum optics lab has moved to AlbaNova
Publicerad 2011-09-07On July 1, Prof. Gunnar Björk’s group, QEO, formally moved to the Dept. of Applied Physics at AlbaNova. Quite naturally, moving a lab does not happen overnight. As of end of August, however, the new lab is nearing completion. Below are two photos from very different stages of the labs completion. The QEO group would like to thank everyone involved in helping them to set up the lab at its new location.

The experiment continues after the failed balloon launch
Publicerad 2011-08-2536 km into the air a leak was discovered in the huge balloon experiment and decision was made to cancel the flight. – We still do not know the cause of the leak, said Mark Pearce, Professor of Astroparticle Physics, The Royal Institute of Technology and Team leader for the international PoGOLite Project.

Successful NCNP 2011 in Stockholm

The conference attracted leading scientists as well as young researchers in nuclear physics from around the world. – We are very pleased with the great success of the conference as reflected by the overwhelming positive response from the participants, both on the programme content and the conference in its entirety, said Professor Bo Cederwall, Conference chair.
