The subject:
The topic is landscape architecture as architecture. The studio focuses on the interaction between landscape and the built environment, the cityscape of Stockholm. It deals with the major issues of the society of today in terms of the physical environment. The course is dealing with the political issues of green structure contra the expanding and imploding city. The main focus is working with design in relation to landscape and architecture, as interdisciplinary projects. The course is divided into four projects and in the end a concluding week.

Projekt 4: The green structure of the city.

Allmänna mål – Overall goals
1. Projektet ingår i studion Landskapsarkitektur. The course is part of the Landscape Design Studio:
The studio enters into contemporary and future issues about urban development. The approach is architecture based on a landscape relation, from a strategic planning situation to small scale designing projects.
2. Projektet syftar till ökad kunskap inom detta område och till fördjupad kunskap/färdighet inom arkitekturämnet som helhet. Projektet riktar sig till studenter som kan ha kommit olika långt i denna fördjupning och som därför även efter projektets slut kommer att ligga på olika nivåer.
3. Den enskilde studenten skall efter projektet ha redovisat en individuell utveckling av sina kunskaper och färdigheter inom studioinriktningens program och inom arkitekturämnet som helhet.

Kursmål - Course goals
At the completion of the course, each student should:

Be able to analyze the strategic landscape situation on a site such as space, history, vegetation and function.

Be able to critically discus the programming of the public spaces on the site.

Design public spaces together with buildings on the site.

Use common methods and techniques in landscape architecture practice.

Have an understanding of contemporary landscape architecture projects through lectures and literature.

Kursens huvudsakliga innehåll

How do we plan and design the new city in relation to the landscape and the suburban areas? Is there a site specific approach instead of major city planning ideas? Wastelands, brushwood or built structures or…?

Through deeper studies, investigations and discussions, the students will define the existing major planning ideas for Stockholm suburbs. Important questions will be; Is it possible to find a site specific approach instead of the major planning ideas? Is the city grid and high density always the right answer?

Kursupplägg

The course will be based on lectures, seminars, excursions, workshops, tutorial, project pin ups and final criticism.

A study trip to a major European city with modern and contemporary developed park policies will take place.

Pedagogy and methodology

The studio contains both work in groups and individual work. Project studies are the main form for the work in the studio. Lectures and literature seminars will be held with different subjects such as science, ecology, design theory, technology and sociology.

Examination

  • PRO1 - Projektdel 1, 9,0 hp, betygsskala: P, F
  • PRO2 - Projektdel 2, 3,0 hp, betygsskala: P, F

Projektet innehåller två delmoment: genomfört och inlämnat projektarbete (9hp) respektive godkänd slutkritik etc (3hp). I det första delmomentet ingår det en eller flera delinlämningar under projekttiden.

Krav för slutbetyg

a) Presentationskrav
- 80% attendance on all compulsory activities; seminars, reviews and tutorials.
- Submit Design task according to specifications.
- Submit Research task according to specifications
- Participation in study trip or alternate activity
b) Examination
80% närvaro. Studenten ska aktivt ha deltagit i ritsalsundervisningen och vid föreläsningar och seminarier etc., samt ha godkända deluppgifter och slutpresentation. Deltagande vid kritikgenomgångar är obligatoriskt.
Kompletteringskrav: Arbetet skall utföras, och i förekommande fall kompletteras, inom given tidsram. Se generella anvisningar.
(Grundprincip: Höstterminsprojekt skall ha blivit godkänt senast vid påföljande vårtermins slut; vårterminsprojekt senast fore påföljande hösttermins start. Materialet skall lämnas in minst en vecka dessförinnan.)
Projektet ska dokumenteras i en portfölj. Ritningar och samtliga analyser och modeller ska finnas med i dokumentationen. Processen ska redovisas.
