AF176V Introduction to BIM, Building Information Modelling 6.0 credits

Introduktion till BIM, Building Information Modelling

This course provides a basic foundation in Building Information Modelling (BIM) through theoretical and practical components. Using the separate disciplines of architecture, construction and building services engineering, a BIM model will be developed and combined to create a common visualisation model for coordination.

Learning outcomes

The course aims to give a general orientation in correct working methodology in working with BIM and a practical introduction to 3D projection/planning, installation and coordination.

After the course, the student should:

  • Be familiar with the theory behind BIM
  • Be able to handle model information and use databases associated with BIM
  • Be able to handle installation coordination with MagiCad
  • Be familiar with the possibilities of collision/interference control using Navisworks
  • Be able to apply acquired knowledge in a project

Course main content

Problem-based learning: the course is centred around a project, where a given architectural model is used. During the course, the student carries out simplified projecting of installations and coordination of these activities.

During the course, the following parts will be treated:

  • The definition BIM in general
  • Introduction to; Revit, MagiCAD and Navisworks
  • Introduction to coordintaion between projectors in the chosen programs

Disposition

The course starts as a 1.5 credit distance course. At course registration, the students will obtain access to programs that will be used in the course for self-study. This part of the course is completed when the home assignment, Project 1, is completed.

The course continues as a 4.5 credit teacher-supervised course. This consists partly of a theoretical part with lectures and a project part where the entire knowledge is exercised and integrated in a project.

Eligibility

General entry requirements and 90 credits within the subject areas the built environment or building technology or architecture. English B.

Literature

Course material and compendiums can be obtained through Bilda.

Required equipment

Own computer with Internet connection is required during the initial week (distance education) of the course.

Examination

  • PRO1 - Assignment, 1.5 credits, grade scale: P, F
  • PRO2 - Assignment, 4.5 credits, grade scale: P, F

Requirements for final grade

For final grade is required a passing grade in Project 1 and Project 2.
