DM2623 IT design for disabled 7.5 credits

A course on the design of IT-support specifically focused on accessibility for people with cognitive disabilities. The course gives an overview of different kind of cognitive disabilities and design principles for making accessible IT-support.

Course contents

Cognitive and physical disabilities, the special needs these set on the technology and working methods, existing aids that are used today and the requirements these sets, practical experience of designing products for individuals with various types of disabilities, current research, methods for software engineering, social consequences of disability.

Intended learning outcomes

  • describe various types of disabilities and which consequences these may have when using information technology
  • describe which social consequences various types of disabilities will give
  • review critically and reflect on the availability of different technical systems and identify potential accessibility problems.

Based on recommendation from KTH’s coordinator for disabilities, the examiner will decide how to adapt an examination for students with documented disability.

The examiner may apply another examination format when re-examining individual students.
