DN3232 Numeriska algoritmer för parallella beräkningar 6,0 hp

Numerical Algorithms for Parallel Computers

Parallel computation has a rich history, and the techniques for solving problems on them are both intriguing and intellectually appealing. Technological disruption has periodically changed the course of the field, stimulating novel ways of solving problems, making tomorrow’s problems tractable today.

Lärandemål

Kursens huvudsakliga innehåll

The course will cover the principles and practices of parallel programming on a new trend in high performance computation: Graphical Processing Units (GPUs). There will be a fair bit of programming in the course, which will culminate in a research project. Our computational platforms will include cutting edge platforms such as the NVidia Tesla system.

Behörighet

Rekommenderade förkunskaper

The prerequisites for the course are Doctoral status and prior experience with parallel processing such as threads or message passing. Students who have previously taken DD3003 will have the required background.  This course picks up where DD3003 leaves off and will focus exclusively on GPUs, including performance programming and detailed applications studies.
