HM2001 Transportation System 7.5 credits

This course gives theoretical knowledge about the role and importance that transport of goods has for the logistic system in a company. That means a description of the requirements of the transports such as range, structure, manage and technical solutions which means the requirements that the company has on the physical movement of goods. The participants will also be given knowledge about how transport services are produced such as models and methods for design and running of transport systems as well as how the market for these services looks like. The importance of information technology in transport of goods will also be described. Basic knowledge about the relation between transport of goods and the economy of the society will also be given. The transport policy of the state and its importance for transport of goods when it comes to costs for infrastructure and environment will also be presented.    

This course will give the participants knowledge about the requirement of transport of goods in the society, supply and demand of transport services and the role of the state when it comes to the necessary infrastructure. You shall be able to

• explain how the requirement of transport of goods in the society looks like
• describe and categorize how the supply of transport services looks like
• account for what production of transport services means
• describe the features and conditions of different transport modes
• execute, document and present a case study about transport of goods.

For a higher grade you also must

• describe and explain the structure of different transport systems
• explain and analyse the connection between the requirement of transports and the development of the economy of the society
• describe and explain the levels of the transport system in the society.

University studies of at least 180 credits (Swedish hp) and documented proficiency in Swedish B and English A or equivalent. In addition knowledge in Basic logistics.

If the course is discontinued, students may request to be examined during the following two academic years.

• PRO1 - Project, 3.0 credits, grading scale: P, F
• TEN1 - Examination, 4.5 credits, grading scale: A, B, C, D, E, FX, F

Based on recommendation from KTH’s coordinator for disabilities, the examiner will decide how to adapt an examination for students with documented disability.

The examiner may apply another examination format when re-examining individual students.
