Learning outcomes
On completion of the course, the student should be able to:
- Identify aims from the curriculum of the school and the course syllabus in technology that include IT and learning, and suggest methods that give preconditions for pupils to achieve them.
- Relate to how computers and Internet influence the development in society in general and at school in particular.
- Create digital objects of learning and use his/her own or others' digital objects of learning in his/her own teaching.
- Seek information and relate to copyright in the field of technology.
- Explain how computers and network are built-up on a general level.
- Describe how personal computers and embedded systems are programmed to be able to carry out a certain job.
- Give examples of several digital tools common at school and describe their advantages and disadvantages
Course main content
The course deals with informatics and its location in the field of technology in the primary and lower-secondary school, above all in upper compulsory school. In the course, we discuss learning in an environment of which computers are a natural part and how the teacher can relate to that development. How computers and network function are also included on a general level. The course also deals with production and use of digital objects of learning.
Eligibility
General entry requirements.
The course is meant for professional teachers in technology in primary and lower-secondary school, above all in upper compulsory school. The course assumes that the student has good knowledge of the use of computers and access to computer and Internet connection during the course.
Literature
Scientific articles, extracts from books, curriculum and course syllabi for the primary and lower-secondary school and several web resources. Literature list is available two weeks before the start of the course at the latest.
Examination
- INL1 - Written Assignment, 4.5 credits, grade scale: P, F
- LAB1 - Laboratory Tasks, 1.5 credits, grade scale: P, F
- SEM1 - Seminars, 1.5 credits, grade scale: P, F
The course is examined through active participation in all course meetings. We apply continuous examination where the student will be assigned larger and smaller written assignments between the course meetings. In the course there is also a laboratory part where the student should create digital objects of learning in technology.
