Content and learning outcomes

Course contents

During the course the student practices reading of simple texts, essay-writing, listening comprehension and simple dialogues based on everyday vocabulary and phrases. Basic Swedish grammar and pronunciation rules are covered and practiced. Facts about Sweden, Swedish culture, society and technical development.

Intended learning outcomes

The expected learning outcomes for the course mainly refer to the levels A1/A2 according to CEFR, Common European Framework for Language.

On completion of the course, the student should be able to:

Listening comprehension

· understand simple phrases and simple conversations about everyday situations/topics spoken slowly and clearly (A1).

Reading comprehension

· understand different everyday texts (A1-A2)

· identify facts from simple everyday authentic texts (A1-A2)

Speech

· talk about him/herself, his/her family, home and studies in simple phrases and sentences (A1-A2)

· describe everyday situations/topics in a simple language (A1-A2)

Conversation and oral interaction

· participate in simple everyday conversations at a slow pace with clear pronunciation (A1)

· ask and answer simple questions on everyday topics (A1)

Writing

· use the language in everyday situations such as short, personal letters and texts (A1-A2)

Other

· account for elementary facts about Sweden

Based on recommendation from KTH’s coordinator for disabilities, the examiner will decide how to adapt an examination for students with documented disability.
