Health

In the health care guide that you can download just below you find all kinds of information regarding on where to turn if you need for example dental treatment, find your nearest hospital or farmacy.

Complete insurance coverage

KTH strongly recommends students to have a complete insurance cover to avoid extreme costs that might occur. A complete insurance should cover:

- medical treatment/personal injury
- dental treatment
- liability cover (in the event that you are subject to a claim for damages)
- legal expenses cover (if you need to make a claim for damages)
- home transportation (in case of serious injury)

It is also advisable that the insurance includes cover for personal belongings.

Students are recommended to purchase a travel/study abroad insurance in the home country to cover the entire stay. If the stay in Sweden is shorter than one year, students are required to have a complete medical insurance cover already when applying for the Residence Permit.

EU/EEA citizens and the European insurance card

Students from EU/EEA member countries should bring the European Insurance Card, filled out by the Social Insurance Office in their home country. The card states that you are entitled to health care on the same conditions and at the same price as Swedish citizens. Bring the card anytime you need to seek medical care. The “EU-card” does not mean that you do not need insurance. You will still need it for, for instance, dental care, home transportation, personal belongings and liability cover.

Trygg-Hansa Home Insurance for KTH Students

Trygg-Hansa is a Swedish insurance company that, in cooperation with the KTH Students' Union, THS, offers a three month long home insurance to all KTH students who have paid the student union fee and have a personal registration number.

This home insurance covers personal belongings, liability (home insurance), international travel for under 45 days, sudden and necessary travel to the home country, assault and crisis.

When this three month period ends, students are welcome to prolong their insurance for a monthly fee comparable to other insurance rates.

Citizens of Algeria, Australia and the Quebec-region (Canada)

Sweden has special agreements with Algeria, Australia and the Quebec-region (Canada) regarding free emergency medical care. If you are from any of these countries, please contact the Social Security office in your home country for more information.
