Edoardo Mason: The geometry of the Hodge locus

After a gentle introduction to Hodge theory for smooth projective varieties, we will discuss the behaviour of Hodge classes for families of varieties, as motivated by the Hodge conjecture. Then, we describe the Zilbert-Pink paradigm for the study of the Hodge locus and some of its geometric applications.
