Exhibition: 'Pointclouding' (Feb 16 – Mar 23)

An exhibition in the KTH-A entrance foyer, produced by Advanced Level Studio 5. With the use of a spatial laser scanner, the studio has captured sites such as Slussen, Stockholm’s City Library, parking lots and a bunker in Arninge in detailed orthographical drawings. The resulting representations include phenomenas such as motion distortions, glitches and layered information. What is on display is as much an analysis of the architect's tools of representation themselves, as the surveyed sites.

STUDIO 5: POINTCLOUDING

Analyzing a site in a high resolution unveils its nonlinearities. Cracks from decades of load-carrying, corrosion, weathering, alterations, patch-ups, legal and illegal paintwork are all processes that continuously modify and mature an environment. As the 3d-scanner sees it, there are no hierarchy between tectonics and trash, everything is registered with the x, y, z-coordinates and aggregated into enormous clouds of data.

With the use of a laser scanner, Studio 5: Fictions has captured the accelerated decay of Slussen in detailed orthographical drawings. The representations include phenomenas such as motion distortions, glitches and over layered information. As a pre-study for the studio project, a series of spatial scan test were made, Stockholm’s City Library (Asplund), parking lots, a bunker in Arninge.
