Efficient Digitalisation of Higher Education
The Open Learning Initiative (OLI) creates web-based courses that are designed so that students can learn effectively without an instructor, but the courses are also used by instructors to support and complement face-to-face classroom instruction. Evaluations have shown the effectiveness in both these instructional modes. Most remarkable is a study where students learned a full semester’s worth of Statistics in half the time while performing as well or better than students learning from traditional instruction on tests and final exam. One of the foundations in OLI is the data-driven learning model that can be used both to inform teachers continuously how their students are doing, but also in retrospect iteratively improve the course based on the same data. It is like having an automatic course evaluation for every problem and question posed during the course.
