It is time for SPCI10 – a conference on the science and processing of cast iron. This time the conference takes place in Mar del Plata in Argentina. It was a long trip to get here. But arriving at the very nice hotel Costa Galana, which is located at the beautiful coast of Mar del Plata, it was totally worth the long trip!
The first day included some presentations about mechanical properties of cast irons with focus on automotive applications. For example, Ingvar L Svensson from Jönköping University talked about modeling and simulation of mechanical properties and Werner Menk from George Fischer Automotive described development of ductile irons for exhaust applications. The latter presentation is what I work with so we had some nice and interesting discussions. I also gave my presentation about high-temperature corrosion fatigue of a cast iron in exhaust environments. We got to enjoy a tango dance during the lunch followed by a dance lesson, which was a nice break from the technical sessions. After a long day it was nice to relax at the hotel spa and then dine with a part of the Swedish delegation. Looking forward to the rest of the week!
