But before we go all\u00a0 in Christmas, let us look back on some of the great things that happened at the Division this year!<\/div>\n<p>While a few colleagues left us for other adventures, we welcomed new members to the Division. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kth.se\/blogs\/hist\/2021\/02\/new-phd-student-in-the-making-universities-matter-project\/\"><strong>Klara M\u00fcller<\/strong> joined us as a new PhD student in the Making Universities Matter-project, and <strong>Linus Sal\u00f6<\/strong> re-joined us as her main supervisor <\/a>at the very start of 2021. About half a year later <strong>Erik Ljungberg<\/strong> started his PhD trainging with us aiming on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kth.se\/blogs\/hist\/2021\/08\/a-new-phd-at-the-division\/\">the <span class=\"css-901oao css-16my406 r-poiln3 r-bcqeeo r-qvutc0\">History of Media and Environment with a focus on AI and autonomous systems<\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Nuno Marques<\/strong> started his international postdoc with us and the EHL in July with the project <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kth.se\/philhist\/historia\/forskning\/environmental-humani\/air-epistemologies-practices-of-ecopoetry-in-ibero-american-atmospheres-1.1096044\">Air Epistemologies: Practices of Ecopoetry in Ibero American Atmospheres<\/a>. Soon after him, <strong>Tirza Meyer<\/strong> join us as a postdoc in the project <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kth.se\/philhist\/historia\/forskning\/higher-education-ins\/the-mediated-planet-claiming-data-for-environmental-sdgs-1.1014650\">The Mediated Planet: Claiming Data for Environmental SDGs<\/a> led by <strong>Sabine H\u00f6hler<\/strong>. We were also happy to recieve the news that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kth.se\/philhist\/historia\/omoss\/nyheter\/lina-rahm-joins-the-posthumanities-hub-1.999881\"><strong>Lina Rahm<\/strong>, who has been with us as a Ragnar Holm fellow since last fall<\/a>, will start her position Assistant Professor in the History of Media and Environment with specialization in Artificial Intelligence and Autonomous Systems at the Division from January 1 2022.<\/p>\n<p>Three doctoral students successfully defended their thesis this year:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Corinna R\u00f6ver<\/strong> on June 2 with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kth.se\/blogs\/hist\/2021\/05\/coming-up-corinna-rovers-dissertation-defence\/\">Making Reindeer. The Negotiation of an Arctic Animal in Modern Swedish S\u00e1pmi, 1920-2020<\/a><strong> Supervisors:<\/strong> Sverker S\u00f6rlin, Dag Avango &amp; Per Axelsson<\/li>\n<li><strong>Dmitry Arzyutov<\/strong> on August 20 with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kth.se\/blogs\/hist\/2021\/08\/phd-defence-on-friday\/\">Reassembling the Environmental Archives of the Cold War <\/a><strong>Supervisors<\/strong>: Peder Roberts, Per H\u00f6gselius &amp; Julia Lajus<\/li>\n<li><strong>Irma Allen<\/strong> on October 1 with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kth.se\/blogs\/hist\/2021\/09\/defence-coming-up-dirty-coal-industrial-populism-as-purification-in-polands-mining-heartland\/\">Dirty coal \u2013 Industrial Populism as Purification in Poland\u2019s Mining Heartland<\/a><strong> Supervisors<\/strong>: Sverker S\u00f6rlin &amp; Sabine H\u00f6hler<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>New projects got funding! <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kth.se\/philhist\/historia\/ehl\/projects\/harnessing-the-heat-below-our-feet-1.1046098\">Harnessing the Heat Below our Feet<\/a>, with <strong>Marco Armiero<\/strong> and Ethemcan Turhan (from University of Groningen). <strong>Lize-Marie van der Watt<\/strong> and <strong>Kati Lindstr\u00f6m<\/strong> received funding from RJ for the project <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kth.se\/philhist\/historia\/omoss\/nyheter\/decay-without-mourning-future-thinking-heritage-practices-new-grant-for-lize-marie-van-der-watt-1.1090084\">Decay Without Mourning: Future-thinking Heritage Practices<\/a>. <a href=\"http:\/\/Beyond Unprepared and Sustainability\u2019s Formative Moment - Formas' Grants two new Projects\">And as reported recently<\/a>, both <strong>Eric Paglia<\/strong> and <strong>Fredrik Bertilsson<\/strong> was granted funding from Fromas this fall. To mention just a few projects.<\/p>\n<p>What else happened? Well, <strong>Kati Lindstr\u00f6m<\/strong> became a member of the Estonian Polar Research Committee. Johan G\u00e4rdebo recieved the DHST Dissertation Prize for best dissertation 2019. <strong>David Nilsson<\/strong> was elected a member of WaterAid Sweden&#8217;s board. <strong>Daniele Valisena<\/strong>, received the ESEH Dissertation Prize from the European Society for Environmental History for best doctoral dissertation 2019-2020, Coal Lives: Italians and the Metabolism of Coal in Wallonia, Belgium, 1945-1980 (supervisor Marco Armiero ).<\/p>\n<p>Above all this, <strong>Sverker S\u00f6rlin<\/strong> was awarded twice during the fall. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kth.se\/philhist\/historia\/omoss\/nyheter\/sverker-sorlin-tilldelas-ivas-stora-guldmedalj-1.1112158\">First with the Grand Gold Medal by the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences (IVA<\/a>), &#8220;for outstanding work as an innovative researcher, research leader and active public debater and for his significant contributions and deep commitment to research and higher education.&#8221; A few weeks later he was awarded the The Royal Society of Sciences at Uppsala awards Sverker S\u00f6rlin the Thur\u00e9us Prize, for &#8220;outstanding contributions as a pioneer in environmental history, or&#8221; environmental humanities &#8220;, in Sweden and internationally, and for his extensive activities as a research policy author and debater&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Nina Wormbs<\/strong> received <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kth.se\/philhist\/historia\/omoss\/nyheter\/nina-wormbs-far-stipendium-for-bok-om-klimatsorg-1.1100612\">the Nature &amp; Culture popular science work scholarship<\/a> of SEK 100,000 to write a book on Climate Grief (Klimatsorg).<\/p>\n<p>And finally, on December 9 <strong>Kati Lindstr\u00f6m <\/strong>was accepted as a Docent in History of Science, Technology and Environment with a specialization in Environmental Humanities and Uses of History.<\/p>\n<p>Not to forget all the events and\u00a0 publications, opinion pieces and worskhops.
