Ekonomin under konstant uppsikt<\/h2>\n

B\u00e4sta kollegor!<\/p>\n

Behovet av att forts\u00e4tta prata om den tuffa ekonomiska situation vi \u00e4r i p\u00e5 grund av de h\u00f6ga lokalkostnaderna \u00e4r stort. Som en konsekvens har ITM f\u00e5tt i uppdrag att utreda hur en flytt av Campus S\u00f6dert\u00e4lje till KTH Campus, och i viss m\u00e5n till KTH Flemingsberg, skulle p\u00e5verka verksamheten. Detta scenario \u2013 liksom ytterligare fyra andra \u2013 f\u00f6rklaras av rektor Anders S\u00f6derholm i tidigare nyhetsbrev och i hans blogg.<\/a><\/p>\n

Den 26 april deltog jag i ett uppstartsm\u00f6te med prorektor Mikael Lindstr\u00f6m, som gav mig i uppdrag att tillsammans med ITM-ledningen och anst\u00e4llda p\u00e5 IPU S\u00f6dert\u00e4lje l\u00e4gga fr\u00e5gan under lupp. ITM:s ledning har d\u00e4rf\u00f6r i veckan tr\u00e4ffat Magnus Wiktorsson f\u00f6r att diskutera hur vi bildar grupper som kan arbeta med uppdraget. Vi kommer sj\u00e4lvklart att involvera medarbetarna p\u00e5 IPU i S\u00f6dert\u00e4lje, skyddsombud, studenter m.fl. V\u00e5ra arbetsgrupper ska leverera rapporterna senast den 30 september. Vi kommer att se till att vi kommunicerar varje steg vi tar f\u00f6r att informera er alla.<\/p>\n

Som bekant v\u00e4ntas kostnaderna f\u00f6r kontor och laboratorier p\u00e5 respektive KTH-campus \u00f6ka mellan 2023 och 2028 (se tabell i slutet av artikeln). \u00c4ven om vi p\u00e5 ITM har b\u00f6rjat se \u00f6ver v\u00e5ra kontor och laboratorier m\u00e5ste vi hela tiden vara medvetna om vilka kostnader vi har. ITM:s yta f\u00f6r kontor och konferensrum per anst\u00e4lld \u00e4r den n\u00e4st h\u00f6gsta p\u00e5 KTH (se tabell i slutet av artikeln). Vi har 13,4 kvadratmeter per anst\u00e4lld. Det ska j\u00e4mf\u00f6ras med 10,2 kvadratmeter per anst\u00e4lld p\u00e5 CBH-skolan. Vi spenderar 31 procent mer p\u00e5 rum per person j\u00e4mf\u00f6rt med CBH-skolan.<\/p>\n

Dessutom \u00e4r v\u00e5ra kostnader f\u00f6r v\u00e5ra experimentella milj\u00f6er de h\u00f6gsta p\u00e5 KTH. Det f\u00f6rklaras av vilken typ av forskning och undervisning vi har. Vi beh\u00f6ver ha v\u00e4lutrustade lokaler f\u00f6r att kunna erbjuda en utbildning av h\u00f6g kvalitet. Institutionerna som ligger p\u00e5 Brinellv\u00e4gen 66 \u2013 87 diskuterar just nu hur man ska kunna dela de h\u00e4r anl\u00e4ggningarna. Jens Fridh leder en arbetsgrupp f\u00f6r att se \u00f6ver m\u00f6jligheterna att dela verkst\u00e4der f\u00f6r studenter och anst\u00e4llda. Att minska kostnaderna \u00e4r n\u00f6dv\u00e4ndigt om vi ska ha r\u00e5d att underh\u00e5lla och f\u00f6rnya n\u00f6dv\u00e4ndiga maskiner och utrustning.<\/p>\n

Det finns naturligtvis andra s\u00e4tt att f\u00f6rb\u00e4ttra ekonomin \u2013 till exempel genom att \u00f6ka inkomsterna. H\u00e4r s\u00f6ker v\u00e5r fakultet forskningspengar, b\u00e5de i Sverige och i Europa. Dessutom vill jag s\u00e4rskilt n\u00e4mna ITM-l\u00e4rarnas anstr\u00e4ngningar f\u00f6r att skapa nya kurser f\u00f6r livsl\u00e5ngt l\u00e4rande. Hittills har l\u00e4rarna vid institutionen f\u00f6r L\u00e4rande skapat de nyaste kurserna. Dessa nya LL-kurser ger b\u00e5de h\u00f6gre inkomster och \u00f6kar KTH:s genomslag n\u00e4r personer utanf\u00f6r KTH g\u00e5r dessa.<\/p>\n

Slutligen vill jag informera om mina f\u00f6rs\u00f6k p\u00e5 hemmaplan att f\u00e5 kontroll \u00f6ver bostadssituationen, d\u00e4r m\u00e5let \u00e4r att ta emot fler f\u00e5glar i min tr\u00e4dg\u00e5rd men p\u00e5 ett mindre omr\u00e5de. Jag har k\u00f6pt ett flerfamiljsf\u00e5gelhus som till\u00e5ter tre familjer att dela samma hus. Jag tycker det ser ganska fint ut, men vi f\u00e5r se vad f\u00e5glarna tycker…<\/p>\n

The finances under constant watch<\/h2>\n

Dear colleagues,<\/p>\n

I feel a great need to continue to talk about the financial situation due to the rising housing costs.<\/p>\n

As a consequence of the severe economic situation at KTH, we at ITM have been given the task to investigate the consequences of moving operations in S\u00f6dert\u00e4lje to the KTH Campus and, to a certain extent, to KTH Flemingsberg. This scenario and the other scenarios are explained in previous newsletters and in the blog by the President<\/a>.<\/p>\n

I attended a kick-off meeting with deputy president Mikael Lindstr\u00f6m on April 26. Here, I got the instruction to carry this task together with the ITM management and employees at IPU S\u00f6dert\u00e4lje. Thus, on May 2 the ITM leadership met with Magnus Wiktorsson to discuss the formation of groups in order to carry out the task given. We will, of course, involve the employees at IPU S\u00f6dert\u00e4lje, safety representatives, students and others. Our working groups will deliver the reports by September 30. We will make sure that we communicate each step we take in order to inform all of you.<\/p>\n

The costs for offices and laboratories at each KTH campus are predicted to increase a lot from 2023 to 2028 (see table at the end of the article). Even if ITM have started to look over our offices and laboratories, we need to constantly be aware of what costs we have. ITM\u2019s area for offices and conference rooms per employee is the second highest at KTH (see table at the end of the article). Our number is 13.4 square meters per employee. This should be compared to 10.2 square meters per employee at the CBH school. Specifically, we spend 31 percentage more on rooms per person compared to the CBH school.<\/p>\n

In addition, our costs for the experimental facilities are the highest at KTH. The reason is the nature of our research and teaching. Specifically, we need to keep well-equipped facilities in order to provide an education of high quality. The departments located at Brinellv\u00e4gen 66 \u2013 87 are currently discussing how to share experimental facilities. Jens Fridh is leading a working group to discuss possibilities to share workshops for students and employees. Cutting costs is necessary to be able to afford to maintain and renew the necessary machinery and equipment.<\/p>\n

There are, of course, other ways of improving the economy \u2013 for example by increasing the incomes. Here, our faculty is applying for research money both in Sweden and in Europe. In addition, I especially wish to point out the efforts by ITM teachers to create new life-long learning courses. So far, the teachers at the Department of Learning have created the newest courses. These new LLL courses both result in more incomes and increases the impact of KTH when people from outside KTH attend.<\/p>\n

Finally, I wish to inform you about my efforts at home to get control of the housing situation, where the goal is to host more birds in my garden in a smaller area. I have bought a multi-family bird house that allows for three families to share the same house. I think it looks pretty nice, but we will see what the birds think\u2026<\/p>\n
