Kombinationen av en hel del undervisning och allt arbete med kommande f\u00f6r\u00e4ndringar p\u00e5 KTH g\u00f6r att tiden verkar g\u00e5 extra fort. Samtidigt k\u00e4nns det v\u00e4ldigt positivt att det \u00e4r en h\u00f6g f\u00f6r\u00e4ndringstakt. Tanken \u00e4r ju att f\u00e5 verksamheten att b\u00e4ttre matcha de krav som studenter och samh\u00e4llet st\u00e4ller p\u00e5 oss som universitet.<\/p>\n<p>Som ansvarig f\u00f6r forskarutbildningen p\u00e5 ITM blev jag v\u00e4ldigt glad n\u00e4r jag nyligen fick ta del av resultaten fr\u00e5n den senaste Pulsenk\u00e4ten. D\u00e4r framg\u00e5r det tydligt att v\u00e5ra anst\u00e4llda doktorander trivs v\u00e4ldigt v\u00e4l och att siffrorna f\u00f6rb\u00e4ttrats sedan m\u00e4tningen f\u00f6re sommaren. Jag noterade att doktoranderna p\u00e5 n\u00e4stan samtliga fr\u00e5gor uppvisar b\u00e4ttre resultat \u00e4n \u00f6vriga anst\u00e4llda. Det ser jag som en god indikation p\u00e5 att doktoranderna har fina f\u00f6ruts\u00e4ttningar f\u00f6r sina studier. Visserligen inkluderas inte stipendiater och industridoktorander i pulsm\u00e4tningarna och vi vet sedan tidigare att just dessa forskarstuderande st\u00f6ter p\u00e5 fler utmaningar under studierna. Men sammantaget kan man konstatera att vi r\u00f6r oss i r\u00e4tt riktning. Hoppas att vi kan forts\u00e4tta p\u00e5 den inslagna v\u00e4gen \u00e4ven fram\u00f6ver.<\/p>\n<p>F\u00f6rra veckan startade ITM-skolans introduktionskurs f\u00f6r forskarstuderande. En f\u00f6rhoppning med kursen \u00e4r givetvis att alla forskarstuderande ska ha god k\u00e4nnedom om de regler och rutiner som finns f\u00f6r forskarutbildningen, men jag hoppas ocks\u00e5 att den ska leda till att positiva normer och effektiva arbetss\u00e4tt fr\u00e5n v\u00e5ra olika doktorsprogram ska kunna spridas \u00f6ver hela skolan. En annan f\u00f6rhoppning \u00e4r att den ska bidra till att doktorander fr\u00e5n olika institutioner och \u00e4mnen l\u00e4r k\u00e4nna varandra och\u00a0 hittar nya m\u00f6jligheter till gr\u00e4ns\u00f6verskridande samarbeten. Som m\u00e5nga vet beh\u00f6vs fler doktorandkurser. F\u00f6rslag p\u00e5 nya eller etablerade kurser som \u00e4r relevanta f\u00f6r flera olika doktorsprogram och s\u00e5ledes kan ges med h\u00f6gre frekvens efterlyses d\u00e4rf\u00f6r. Tveka inte att kontakta doktorsprogramsanvariga eller mig f\u00f6r att diskutera id\u00e9er p\u00e5 s\u00e5dana kurser.<\/p>\n<p>\/Mats Magnusson, ansvarig f\u00f6r forskarutbildningen p\u00e5 ITM<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Spreading good practices and expanding the network<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Despite the warm weather, it feels like it has been long since the autumn semester started. The combination of a lot of teaching and all the work on upcoming changes at KTH makes time seem to pass quickly. At the same time, it feels very optimistic that there is a high rate of change. The idea is to make our operations better match the demands that students and society place on us as a university.<\/p>\n<p>As director of third cycle education at ITM, I was delighted to see the latest Pulse survey results. It is clear that our employed doctoral students are content, and the indicators have improved since the previous survey before the summer. I noticed that, on almost all questions, the doctoral students showed better results than other employees. I see this as a clear indication that doctoral students have good study conditions. Indeed, scholarship holders and externally employed doctoral students are not included in the pulse, and we already know that these students face more challenges during their studies. However, we can conclude that we are moving in the right direction. I hope that we can continue on the path we have taken.<\/p>\n<p>Last week, ITM School started its introductory course for doctoral students. One ambition is, naturally, that all doctoral students will get a good understanding of the education\u2019s regulations and procedures. But I also hope that the course will lead to positive norms and that efficient working methods from our various doctoral programs can spread throughout the school. Another hope is that it will contribute to doctoral students from different departments and disciplines getting to know each other and finding new opportunities for cross-disciplinary collaborations. As many are aware, we need more doctoral courses. Therefore, suggestions for new or established courses relevant to several different doctoral programs that can be offered more frequently are sought.
