I fokus stod skolans ekonomi, grundutbildning och j\u00e4mst\u00e4lldhet, m\u00e5ngfald och lika villkor. Vi st\u00e5r just nu inf\u00f6r betydande utmaningar f\u00f6r att n\u00e5 en ekonomi i balans, i synnerhet g\u00e4ller det v\u00e5r utbildning. Medan skolans finansiering av forskning ser bra ut, mycket tack vare m\u00e5nga flitiga kollegors entr\u00e4gna ans\u00f6kningsarbete, s\u00e5 ser ekonomin f\u00f6r v\u00e5r grundutbildning v\u00e4ldigt m\u00f6rk ut. F\u00f6r att komma tillr\u00e4tta med \u00e5rets budgeterade underskott och n\u00e5 \u201dgrundutbildning i balans\u201d beh\u00f6ver vi reducera kostnaderna radikalt! Det ser visserligen v\u00e4ldigt olika ut p\u00e5 olika institutioner, men sammantaget m\u00e5ste vi g\u00f6ra stora f\u00f6r\u00e4ndringar. Det kommer att kr\u00e4va allas medverkan. En f\u00f6rsta \u00e5tg\u00e4rd som vi alla m\u00e5ste arbeta f\u00f6r \u00e4r att se till att studentantalet \u00f6kar s\u00e5 att vi kommer upp till det takbelopp vi har f\u00e5tt och d\u00e4rigenom f\u00e5r in de utbildningsint\u00e4kter som b\u00e5de ITM och KTH beh\u00f6ver. Detta \u00e4r n\u00e5got som i slut\u00e4ndan beror p\u00e5 de enskilda beslut som fattas av varje l\u00e4rare och programansvarig. I nul\u00e4get \u00e4r det s\u00e5ledes viktigt att kurser genomf\u00f6rs enligt plan och att vi verkligen fyller v\u00e5ra program med studenter.<\/p>\n<p>Det \u00e4r ocks\u00e5 viktigt att vi konsekvent arbetar med v\u00e5ra kursbudgetar f\u00f6r att kunna fastst\u00e4lla r\u00e4tt kursutbud f\u00f6r kommande \u00e5r. Vi ska givetvis inte kompromissa med kvaliteten i v\u00e5r utbildning, men i nul\u00e4get kan vi helt enkelt inte bortse fr\u00e5n den ekonomiska realiteten.<\/p>\n<p>Ett helt annat \u00e4mne som jag vill ta upp \u00e4r resultaten fr\u00e5n den senaste doktorandenk\u00e4ten, som nu genomf\u00f6rts p\u00e5 samtliga skolor p\u00e5 KTH. \u00c4ven om mycket ser bra ut p\u00e5 ITM sticker n\u00e5gra ting ut p\u00e5 ett ov\u00e4ntat och tr\u00e5kigt s\u00e4tt. F\u00f6rst och fr\u00e4mst kan man notera att ITM:s doktorander \u00e4r mindre n\u00f6jda med sin handledning \u00e4n andra doktorander p\u00e5 KTH. Orsaken till detta tycks huvudsakligen vara att det \u00e4r m\u00e5nga doktorander som inte f\u00e5r s\u00e5 mycket handledning som de k\u00e4nner att de egentligen beh\u00f6ver. Ett annat negativt resultat \u00e4r att en bekymmersamt stor andel av ITM-doktoranderna upplever att det finns tveksamheter kring hur handledarna hanterar fr\u00e5gan om f\u00f6rfattarskap. Jag vill p\u00e5minna om att handledarskap och f\u00f6rfattarskap \u00e4r tv\u00e5 olika f\u00f6reteelser och handledare ska inte inkluderas som f\u00f6rfattare p\u00e5 artiklar d\u00e4r de inte uppfyller de krav p\u00e5 f\u00f6rfattarskap som \u00e5terfinns i KTH:s etiska policy. Vad g\u00e4ller just f\u00f6rfattarskap grundar den sig p\u00e5 det s\u00e5 kallade <a href=\"https:\/\/www.icmje.org\/recommendations\/browse\/roles-and-responsibilities\/defining-the-role-of-authors-and-contributors.html\">Vancouverprotokollet<\/a> som tydligt sl\u00e5r fast att man f\u00f6r att kvalificera sig som f\u00f6rfattare av ett alster ska uppfylla <u>samtliga<\/u> av dessa krav:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Ge ett betydande bidrag till arbetets uppkomst eller design, eller bidra p\u00e5 ett p\u00e5tagligt s\u00e4tt till insamling, analys och tolkning av data.<\/li>\n<li>G\u00f6ra utkast till arbetet eller kritiskt granska det avseende viktigt intellektuellt inneh\u00e5ll.<\/li>\n<li>Slutgiltigt godk\u00e4nna den version av arbetet som ska publiceras.<\/li>\n<li>Ta ansvar f\u00f6r alla delar av arbetet genom att f\u00f6rs\u00e4kra sig om att allt \u00e4r korrekt utf\u00f6rt.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Att enbart ge feedback p\u00e5 ett arbete som doktoranden utf\u00f6r relativt sj\u00e4lvst\u00e4ndigt utg\u00f6r allts\u00e5 inte grund f\u00f6r f\u00f6rfattarskap, inte ens om det sker upprepade g\u00e5nger, och att som handledare s\u00e4tta sitt namn p\u00e5 en s\u00e5dan artikel utg\u00f6r s\u00e5ledes oredlighet i forskning. I skolans nya introduktionskurs f\u00f6r doktorander g\u00e5r vi givetvis igenom KTH:s riktlinjer f\u00f6r f\u00f6rfattarskap och andra forskningsetiska fr\u00e5gor. Medvetenheten och kunskapen om detta kommer d\u00e4rf\u00f6r att \u00f6ka hos v\u00e5ra doktorander fram\u00f6ver och jag hoppas givetvis att \u00e4ven v\u00e5ra handledare friskar upp sin kunskap om f\u00f6rfattarskap.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.icmje.org\/recommendations\/browse\/roles-and-responsibilities\/defining-the-role-of-authors-and-contributors.html\">Vancouverprotokollet<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\/Mats Magnusson, andre vice skolchef p\u00e5 ITM<\/p>\n<h2>Fill the programmes and read the Vancouver Protocol<\/h2>\n<p>Recently, ITM leaders met for a two-day off-site conference centering on school finances, first- and second-cycle education, and gender equality, diversity and equal conditions. We face significant challenges in balancing our finances, particularly in our education program. While the school&#8217;s funding for research looks good, thanks to the persistent application work of many diligent colleagues, our first- and second-cycle educational programme&#8217;s finances look bleak. We need to radically reduce costs to overcome this year&#8217;s budget deficit and achieve a &#8220;balanced first and second cycle-education,&#8221; we need to reduce expenses radically! Although the situation varies significantly from one department to another, we need to make significant changes overall. This requires everyone&#8217;s involvement. A first measure that we all have to work for is to ensure that the number of students increases so that we reach the ceiling amount we have been given and get the education income that both ITM and KTH need. This ultimately depends on the individual decisions each teacher and program manager makes. Therefore, it is essential that courses are carried out according to plan and that we fill our programmes with students.<\/p>\n<p>We must also work consistently with our course budgets to determine the right range of courses for the coming year. Of course, we should not compromise the quality of our education, but at this point, we simply cannot ignore the economic reality.<\/p>\n<p>A completely different topic I would like to address is the results from the latest doctoral student survey, which has now been conducted at all schools at KTH. Even though many things look good at ITM, some things stand out in an unexpected and sad way. First, we notice that ITM&#8217;s doctoral students are less satisfied with their supervision than other doctoral students at KTH. The main reason for this seems to be that many doctoral students don\u2019t receive as much supervision as they feel they need. Another negative result is that a worryingly large proportion of ITM doctoral students think there are doubts about how supervisors handle the issue of authorship.<\/p>\n<p>I would like to remind you that supervision and authorship are two different phenomena, and supervisors should not be included as authors on articles where they do not fulfill the requirements for authorship found in KTH&#8217;s ethical policy. Concerning authorship, it is based on the so-called <a href=\"https:\/\/www.icmje.org\/recommendations\/browse\/roles-and-responsibilities\/defining-the-role-of-authors-and-contributors.html\">Vancouver Protocol<\/a>, which clearly states that to qualify as an author of an article, one must fulfill <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">all<\/span> these requirements:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>making a significant contribution to the conception or design of the work or making a significant contribution to the collection, analysis, and interpretation of data.<\/li>\n<li>Draft the work or critically review it for important intellectual content.<\/li>\n<li>Final approval of the version of the work to be published.<\/li>\n<li>Taking responsibility for all work aspects by ensuring everything is done correctly.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Simply giving feedback on a work that the doctoral student carries out relatively independently does not constitute a basis for authorship, even if it happens repeatedly, and as a supervisor, putting your name on such an article thus constitutes misconduct in research. In the school&#8217;s new introductory course for doctoral students, we naturally go through KTH&#8217;s guidelines for authorship and other research ethics issues.
