KTH st\u00e4rker sin position<\/h2>\n

\u00c5rets antagning st\u00e4ngde 15 april och jag kan avsl\u00f6ja att KTH har st\u00e4rkt sin st\u00e4llning rej\u00e4lt f\u00f6r f\u00f6rstahandss\u00f6kande till civilingenj\u00f6rsprogram. Efter en svagt ned\u00e5tg\u00e5ende trend valde nu 28,8% av dessa KTH. F\u00f6r andra \u00e5ret i rad sl\u00e5r KTH ocks\u00e5 rekord i antal f\u00f6rstahandss\u00f6kande till dessa program. Samtidigt \u00e4r Chalmers minskning m\u00e4rkbar, p\u00e5 \u00f6ver tre procentenheter.<\/p>\n

P\u00e5 den negativa sidan kan jag konstatera att andelen kvinnor som s\u00f6ker till KTH i f\u00f6rsta hand sjunker. Den ligger nu f\u00f6r f\u00f6rsta g\u00e5ngen sedan 2014 under 31% (30,7%). Den h\u00e4r fr\u00e5gan finns det anledning att fundera \u00f6ver p\u00e5 KTH och dekanus har nu gett skolornas fakultetsn\u00e4mnder i uppdrag att ta fram en handlingsplan f\u00f6r breddad rekrytering och breddat deltagande. Den ska vara klar vid \u00e5rsskiftet och ITM-skolans fakultetsn\u00e4mnd kommer strax p\u00e5b\u00f6rja arbetet.<\/p>\n

Tv\u00e5 andra trender inom v\u00e5ra fem\u00e5rsprogram \u00e4r att arkitektutbildningen minskar medan civilingenj\u00f6rsprogrammet i industriell ekonomi \u00f6kar. Hela 22% av alla som s\u00f6kte civilingenj\u00f6rsprogram p\u00e5 KTH i f\u00f6rsta hand s\u00f6kte industriell ekonomi (mot 18,8% 2024 och 16,5% 2023 och 2022).<\/p>\n

Det finns mycket sagt och skrivet om dessa fr\u00e5gor. Det vi inte riktigt har kommit till \u00e4r att fullt ut b\u00f6rja till\u00e4mpa all forskning och alla goda id\u00e9er. KTH strengthens its position<\/h2>\n

This year\u2019s admissions closed on 15 April, and I can reveal that KTH has significantly strengthened its position in terms of first-choice applicants to its Master of Science in Engineering programmes. After a slightly declining trend, 28.8% of these applicants have now chosen KTH. For the second consecutive year, KTH is also setting a new record for the number of first-choice applicants to these 5-years programmes. At the same time, Chalmers’ decrease is noticeable, at over three percentage points.<\/span><\/p>\n

On the downside, I must note that the proportion of women applying to KTH as their first choice has declined. For the first time since 2014, it has fallen below 31%, now standing at 30.7%. This is a matter that warrants reflection at KTH, and the Dean has now tasked the faculty boards of the schools to develop action plans for broadened recruitment and wider participation. The plans are to be completed by the end of the year, and ITM\u2019s Faculty Board are just about to start the work.<\/p>\n

Two other trends in our five-year programmes are a decline in applications to the architecture programme and an increase in those to the Industrial Engineering and Management programme. As many as 22% of all applicants to KTH\u2019s Master of Science in Engineering programmes chose Industrial Engineering and Management as their first choice (compared to 18.8% in 2024 and 16.5% in both 2023 and 2022).<\/p>\n

There has been much said and written on these issues. What we haven\u2019t quite achieved yet is fully implementing all the research and good ideas. So, part of the action plan will need to address how we actually move from theory to practice. More on this towards the end of the year.<\/p>\n
