F\u00f6r mig \u00e4r jobbet som b\u00e4st n\u00e4r vi tillsammans tar oss an n\u00e5got sv\u00e5rt \u2013 och l\u00f6ser det med gl\u00e4dje. Precis som under studietiden, d\u00e4r det studentikosa gjorde att man orkade. Jag \u00e4r M88 och trivdes direkt p\u00e5 KTH tack vare Nollningen \u2013 en best practice i att skapa motivation och tillh\u00f6righet. Glada s\u00e5nger, lek och \u00e4ldrekursare med glimten i \u00f6gat \u2013 det funkar!<\/p>\n<p>T\u00e4nk om samma arbets- och livsgl\u00e4dje h\u00f6rdes oftare fr\u00e5n v\u00e5ra institutioner \u00e4n vart tredje \u00e5r n\u00e4r det \u00e4r Quarneval. D\u00e5 kanske fler skulle vilja bli KTH:are och ingenj\u00f6rer \u2013 och bidra till en b\u00e4ttre v\u00e4rld. Det \u00e4r ju faktiskt syftet med ingenj\u00f6rskonsten. Det \u00e4r v\u00e5r kodex.<\/p>\n<p>S\u00e5 varf\u00f6r blickar jag bak\u00e5t? Kanske f\u00f6r att min son just upplevt Nollningen p\u00e5 LTH, medan jag sj\u00e4lv suttit i Zoomm\u00f6ten och k\u00e4nt: &#8220;Det h\u00e4r \u00e4r inte KTH&#8221; (f\u00f6rl\u00e5t Telia). Jag \u00e4lskar KTH och tror att vi kan \u2013 och m\u00e5ste \u2013 g\u00f6ra utbildningen b\u00e5de smartare och roligare.<\/p>\n<p>Jag tror p\u00e5 ett levande campus, d\u00e4r det m\u00e4nskliga och studentikosa \u00e4r en f\u00f6ruts\u00e4ttning f\u00f6r kvalitet. Det m\u00e5ste vara roligt att plugga p\u00e5 KTH! Vid inskrivningen sa jag till studenterna: &#8220;Ni klarar inte studierna p\u00e5 egen hand och ni orkar inte om ni inte har roligt under tiden.&#8221; Studentlivet \u00e4r deras st\u00f6rsta hopp \u2013 och v\u00e5r nyckel till breddad rekrytering.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"editor-h3\">Vad h\u00e4nder med kunskap n\u00e4r AI tar plats?<\/h3>\n<p>Samtidigt st\u00e5r vi inf\u00f6r st\u00f6rre omst\u00e4llningar \u00e4n att dra ner p\u00e5 intag eller f\u00f6r\u00e4ndra utg\u00e5ngar till program. Det handlar v\u00e4l om synen p\u00e5 utbildning och universitet? Inte p\u00e5 l\u00e5ng sikt, utan typ ig\u00e5r? F\u00f6rra veckan bj\u00f6d Mattias Wiggberg in till tre dagars diskussioner om en kunskapsv\u00e4rld i AI-\u00e5ldern. Kollegor hitresta fr\u00e5n Singapore deltog i symposiet och vi diskuterade vilka vi akademiker och l\u00e4rare blir n\u00e4r b\u00e5de kunskap, kreativitet och hantverk i h\u00f6g grad utmanas av AI.<\/p>\n<p>F\u00f6r att klara detta \u2013 och det kommer bli tufft \u2013 m\u00e5ste det vara roligt att arbeta tillsammans. Det kanske f\u00e5r bli min paroll:\u00a0<em>Det ska vara roligt att jobba med kvalitet!<\/em><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"editor-h3\">\u00a0Sk\u00e4rpning kring s\u00e4rskild beh\u00f6righet<\/h3>\n<p>Innan det blir roligare s\u00e5 har vi redan i h\u00f6st identifierat behov av att f\u00f6rb\u00e4ttra praxis kring n\u00e5gra funktioner som s\u00e4rskild beh\u00f6righet (SB). I j\u00e4mf\u00f6relse med andra utmaningar s\u00e5 torde detta vara n\u00e5got vi inom kort kan g\u00f6ra smartare. N\u00e4r SB inte f\u00f6ljs \u2013 oavsett om det sker av sn\u00e4llhet eller misstag \u2013 leder det till extraarbete och frustration. Om vi har SB p\u00e5 en kurs, m\u00e5ste den f\u00f6ljas. Och om den inte beh\u00f6vs \u2013 d\u00e5 ska den bort.<\/p>\n<p>Och f\u00e5r vi tid \u00f6ver\u2026 kanske vi kan ha ett &#8220;bludder&#8221; om v\u00e5rt ekipage\u00a0<em>Framtidens utbildning<\/em> inf\u00f6r v\u00e5rens Quarneval. Fatta vad det skulle g\u00f6ra med kreativiteten och kvaliteten p\u00e5 ITMs utbildningar! F\u00f6r att m\u00f6ta framtidens utmaningar tror jag vi beh\u00f6ver b\u00e5de sk\u00e4rpa och skratt. Och kanske ett ekipage som f\u00e5r hela Stockholm att le.<\/p>\n<p>\/Pernilla Ulfvengren, vice grundutbildningsansvarig p\u00e5 ITM-skolan<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"editor-h2\">It should be fun to work with quality<\/h2>\n<p>My name is Pernilla Ulfvengren, newly appointed Deputy head of first and second cycle education (GA) at ITM, and I identify as an engineer. For me, work is at its best when we tackle something tough together \u2013 and solve it with joy. Just like during my student years, when it was the student traditions that helped us persevere. I\u2019m M88 and felt at home at KTH from day one, thanks to \u201cNollningen\u201d \u2013 a best practice in creating motivation and a sense of belonging. Cheerful songs, playful activities, and older students welcoming you with a twinkle in their eye \u2013 it works!<\/p>\n<p>Imagine if that same joy and energy echoed through our departments more often than every third year when it\u2019s time for the Quarneval. Maybe more people would want to become KTH students and engineers \u2013 and contribute to a better world. After all, that\u2019s the purpose of engineering. It\u2019s our code of honour.<\/p>\n<p>So why am I looking back? Perhaps because my son recently experienced Nollningen at LTH, while I\u2019ve been stuck in countless Zoom meetings thinking: \u201cThis isn\u2019t KTH\u201d (sorry, Telia). I love KTH and I truly believe we can \u2013 and must \u2013 make education smarter and more fun.<\/p>\n<p>I believe in a vibrant campus, where the human and the student-centred aspects are prerequisites for quality. Studying at KTH should be fun! At the welcome ceremony, I told the students: \u201cYou won\u2019t get through your studies alone, and you won\u2019t have the energy unless you\u2019re having fun along the way.\u201d Student life, study buddies and playmates are their greatest hope \u2013 and our key to broader recruitment.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"editor-h3\"><strong>What happens to knowledge when AI enters the room?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>At the same time, we\u2019re facing bigger shifts than just adjusting intake numbers or programme outcomes. It\u2019s about how we view education and universities \u2013 not in the long term, but more like yesterday. Last week, Mattias Wiggberg hosted three days of discussions on the knowledge landscape in the age of AI. Colleagues from Singapore joined the symposium, and we explored what it means to be academics and educators when knowledge, creativity and craftsmanship are increasingly challenged by AI.<\/p>\n<p>To navigate this \u2013 and it will be tough \u2013 we need to enjoy working together. That might just become my motto:\u00a0<em>It should be fun to work with quality!<\/em><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"editor-h3\">Time to tighten up on specific entry requirements<\/h3>\n<p>Before we get to the fun part, we\u2019ve already identified a need this autumn to improve practices around certain functions, such as specific entry requirements (SB). Compared to other challenges, this is something we should be able to fix fairly quickly. When SB isn\u2019t followed \u2013 whether out of kindness or by mistake \u2013 it leads to extra work and frustration. If a course has SB, it must be enforced. And if it\u2019s not truly needed \u2013 it should be removed.<\/p>\n<p>And if we find a bit of spare time\u2026 maybe we can have a little \u201cbludder\u201d about our Quarneval float Future Education. Just imagine what that could do for creativity and quality in ITM\u2019s programmes! To meet the challenges ahead, I believe we need both sharp thinking and laughter.
