L\u00e4rartills\u00e4ttningar och docentur \u2013 ett lagarbete<\/h2>\n

I mitt f\u00f6rra blogginl\u00e4gg skrev jag om arbetet i ITM-skolans anst\u00e4llningsutskott (AU) tillsammans med vice ordf\u00f6rande Anne-Kathrin Peters och handl\u00e4ggare Sara Andersson. Parallellt med detta arbetar ett annat team med docenturfr\u00e5gor. Min kollega Kristina Andersson<\/a>, ordf\u00f6rande i ITM:s docentutskott<\/a> (DU) och bitr\u00e4dande ansvarig f\u00f6r l\u00e4ratills\u00e4ttningar, leder detta arbete tillsammans med vice ordf\u00f6rande Bengt Wittgren och Sara. F\u00f6r den h\u00e4r bloggen bad jag Kristina att ber\u00e4tta lite om arbetet i DU.<\/p>\n

Tack f\u00f6r m\u00f6jligheten att f\u00e5 prata om docentur. Jag har arbetat med dessa \u00e4renden under de senaste \u00e5ren som bitr\u00e4dande FFA. Fr\u00e5n och med i \u00e5r hanteras docentur\u00e4renden i DU. Varje \u00e4rende inleds med kontakt fr\u00e5n prefekten, som l\u00e4mnar information om kandidaten. D\u00e4refter kontaktar jag kandidaten och ber om ett CV, som jag granskar f\u00f6r att s\u00e4kerst\u00e4lla att de huvudsakliga kriterierna \u00e4r uppfyllda. (Krav innefattar forskningsm\u00e4ssig sj\u00e4lvst\u00e4ndighet, vetenskaplig kompetens p\u00e5 h\u00f6g internationell niv\u00e5 samt omfattande erfarenhet av handledning, inklusive doktorander.)<\/p>\n

KTH:s regler f\u00f6r antagning som docent (Eng, PDF)<\/a><\/p>\n

Om jag bed\u00f6mer att kriterierna \u00e4r uppfyllda initierar jag och DU:s vice ordf\u00f6rande en extern granskning. N\u00e4r granskningen \u00e4r klar sammankallas docentutskottet, som best\u00e5r av l\u00e4rar- och studentrepresentanter, och kandidaten bjuds in till intervju. Intervjun ger oss m\u00f6jlighet att f\u00f6rdjupa oss i pedagogiska fr\u00e5gor, handledningsfilosofi samt j\u00e4mst\u00e4lldhet, m\u00e5ngfald och inkludering. Docentutskottet diskuterar kandidatens meriter och l\u00e4mnar en rekommendation till skolchefen. Om kandidaten antas som docent h\u00e5lls en f\u00f6rel\u00e4sning f\u00f6r att uppm\u00e4rksamma utn\u00e4mningen.<\/p>\n

I mina kontakter med institutioner och kandidater \u00e4r det tydligt att docentur \u00e4r en viktig del av karri\u00e4rutvecklingen, b\u00e5de f\u00f6r individen och f\u00f6r KTH. M\u00e5nga institutioner har brist p\u00e5 handledare f\u00f6r doktorander, s\u00e5 nya docenter \u00e4r mycket uppskattade.<\/p>\n

Det \u00e4r intressant att notera att antalet docenturer p\u00e5 ITM har f\u00f6rdubblats under 2025 j\u00e4mf\u00f6rt med tidigare \u00e5r, med omkring tio nya docenter som f\u00f6rv\u00e4ntas bli utn\u00e4mnda i \u00e5r. Denna trend syns \u00e4ven p\u00e5 andra delar av KTH.<\/p>\n

Faculty renewal and docentships, a team effort<\/h2>\n

In my last blog I wrote about the work done in ITM\u2019s employment committee (AU) with vice-chair Anne-Kathrin Peters and officer Sara Andersson. In parallel another team works with docentships. My colleague Kristina Andersson<\/a>, chair of ITM\u2019s docent committee<\/a> (DU) and deputy head of faculty renewal, leads this work with vice-chair Bengt Wittgren and Sara. For this blog I\u2019ve asked Kristina to say a few words about the work done in DU.<\/p>\n

Kristina Andersson:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Thanks for the opportunity to talk about docentships. I have been working with such cases for the past couple of years as deputy FFA. Starting this year docentships have been handled in DU. Each case starts with contact from the head of department who provides information on the candidate. Thereafter I contact the candidate and ask to see a CV, which I review to ensure that the main criteria have been fulfilled. (Requirements include research independence, demonstration of scientific competence at a high international level, and significant experience of supervising students including PhD students.)<\/p>\n

KTH\u2019s regulations for admission as docent (PDF)<\/a><\/p>\n

If I am satisfied with this then the DU vice-chair and I initiate an external review. Once the review is complete docent committee is convened, consisting of teacher and student representatives, which invites the candidate to an interview. This allows us to delve more deeply into pedagogical issues along with supervision philosophy and gender, equity, and inclusiveness. The docent committee discusses the candidate\u2019s qualifications and provides a recommendation to the head of school. If the candidate is appointed as docent then a lecture is held to mark the achievement.<\/p>\n

In my contacts with the departments and candidates it is clear that docentships are a critical part of career development, benefiting the individual and also KTH. Most departments have a shortage of PhD supervisors so having new docents on board are highly appreciated.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s interesting to note that the number of docentships at ITM has doubled for 2025 as compared to other years, with around 10 new docents expected to be appointed this year. This trend has been reported across KTH.<\/p>\n
