Jag har sj\u00e4lv haft f\u00f6rm\u00e5nen att ha \u201dvanliga\u201d f\u00f6rel\u00e4sningar i sal i en av de kurser jag h\u00e5ller i denna l\u00e4speriod och trots att det finns vissa begr\u00e4nsningar och givetvis kr\u00e4vs en del extra s\u00e4kerhets\u00e5tg\u00e4rder \u00e4r det h\u00e4rligt att tr\u00e4ffa studenter igen.<\/p>\n<p>Vi har nu levt med nya arbetsf\u00f6rh\u00e5llanden i ett drygt halv\u00e5r och \u00e4ven om vi i m\u00e5nga avseenden s\u00e4kert vant oss vid digitalt hemarbete och skapat nya vardagsrutiner s\u00e5 tror jag att de flesta av oss allt mer saknar den vardagliga interaktionen med kollegorna. Just i detta avseende \u00e4r m\u00e5nga av v\u00e5ra forskarstuderande speciellt utsatta d\u00e5 de inte alltid har ett stort socialt n\u00e4tverk utanf\u00f6r arbetet och s\u00e5ledes kan uppleva st\u00f6rre problem med upplevd ensamhet och relaterade effekter s\u00e5som stress och psykisk oh\u00e4lsa. Jag skulle d\u00e4rf\u00f6r vilja rikta en uppmaning till samtliga handledare att reflektera kring former och frekvens i handledningen och eventuellt g\u00f6ra vissa f\u00f6r\u00e4ndringar som s\u00e4kerst\u00e4ller att v\u00e5ra forskarstuderande f\u00e5r den uppm\u00e4rksamhet och det st\u00f6d de beh\u00f6ver under den r\u00e5dande situationen.<\/p>\n<p>En del forskningsverksamhet \u00e4r f\u00f6r n\u00e4rvarande sv\u00e5r eller rent av om\u00f6jlig att genomf\u00f6ra och det drabbar s\u00e5v\u00e4l forskarstuderande som mer seniora forskare. Givet de tidsbegr\u00e4nsningar som finns f\u00f6r forskarstudierna \u00e4r det viktigt att f\u00e5nga upp och dokumentera de fall d\u00e4r det finns en risk att studierna m\u00e5ste f\u00f6rl\u00e4ngas p\u00e5 grund av f\u00f6rseningar till f\u00f6ljd av pandemin. I f\u00f6rsta hand ska vi givetvis f\u00f6rs\u00f6ka att planera om v\u00e5rt arbete s\u00e5 att eventuella f\u00f6rseningar minimeras, men om det inte g\u00e5r att undvika \u00e4r det viktigt att de problem och f\u00f6rseningar som uppst\u00e5tt dokumenteras i doktorandens e-ISP efter diskussioner med handledare.<\/p>\n<p>P\u00e5 KTH \u00e4r vi medvetna om att det kommer att uppst\u00e5 f\u00f6rseningar f\u00f6r en del doktorander och Covid-19 betraktas som ett s\u00e4rskilt sk\u00e4l f\u00f6r f\u00f6rl\u00e4ngning av studierna. Det finns dock inga avsatta medel f\u00f6r dessa f\u00f6rl\u00e4ngningar och det ska understrykas att varje fall kommer att pr\u00f6vas individuellt f\u00f6r att kontrollera att en f\u00f6rsening faktiskt varit oundviklig. F\u00f6r mer information om detta vill jag h\u00e4nvisa till <a href=\"https:\/\/intra.kth.se\/forskning\/forskarstudier\/om-forlangning-av-utbildning-pa-forskarniva-och-doktorandanstallning-till-foljd-av-covid-19-1.1010029\">ytterligare information p\u00e5 KTH&#8217;s intran\u00e4t<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Vad g\u00e4ller v\u00e5r forskarutbildning i \u00f6vrigt kan jag konstatera att den i stort fortl\u00f6per som vanligt, tack vare handledares och forskarstuderandes goda insatser. Disputationer och licentiatseminarierna genomf\u00f6rs fortfarande via Zoom, n\u00e5got som faktiskt haft en positiv effekt p\u00e5 deltagande \u00e4ven om det ibland g\u00f6r att dynamiken mellan opponent och respondent blir lite mer begr\u00e4nsad. F\u00f6rhoppningsvis kommer vi inom en rimlig framtid \u00e5terigen kunna h\u00e5lla disputationer med ett st\u00f6rre antal fysiskt n\u00e4rvarande deltagare, men givet erfarenheterna fr\u00e5n digitala dito \u00e4r vi nog m\u00e5nga som i framtiden vill anv\u00e4nda Zoom som ett komplement.<\/p>\n<p>\/ Mats Magnusson, Forskarutbildningsansvarig ITM<\/p>\n<h2>Doctoral studies may be delayed due to the pandemic<\/h2>\n<p>Dear Colleagues,<\/p>\n<p>First of all, I hope that you are all doing well and that the ongoing pandemic isn\u2019t causing too much difficulty in your everyday work. I myself have had the privilege of conducting \u201cnormal\u201d, on-site lectures in one of the courses I am holding during this study period, and although there are certain limitations and of course some extra security measures are necessary, it\u2019s wonderful to interact in-person with students again.<\/p>\n<p>We have now been living with new working conditions for over six months, and although in many respects we have certainly become accustomed to digital homework and created new everyday routines, I think that most of us increasingly miss our everyday interaction with colleagues. In this particular respect, many of our doctoral students are especially vulnerable, as they do not always have a large social network outside of work and thus may experience major problems with feelings of loneliness and related effects such as stress and mental illness. I would therefore like to call on all supervisors to reflect on the forms and frequency of their supervision sessions, and possibly make certain changes that ensure that our doctoral students receive the attention and support they need in the current situation.<\/p>\n<p>It is currently difficult or even impossible to carry out certain research activities, and this affects both doctoral students and more senior researchers. Given the time constraints that exist for doctoral studies, it is important to identify and document cases where there is a risk that the studies will need to be extended due to delays resulting from the pandemic. In the first place we will of course try to reschedule our work to minimise any delays, but if they prove impossible to avoid, it is important that the problems and delays that have occurred are documented in the doctoral student&#8217;s e-ISP after discussions with her\/his supervisors.<\/p>\n<p>Here at KTH, we are aware that some doctoral students will experience delays, and COVID-19 is considered a special reason for extending one\u2019s studies. However, there are no funds set aside for these extensions, and it should be stressed that each case will be examined individually to verify that a delay has actually been unavoidable. Doctoral thesis defences and licentiate seminars continue to be conducted via Zoom, which has actually had a positive effect on participation, although it sometimes makes the dynamic between opponent and respondent a little more limited.
